Target discount on an ladies Omega?...
Discussion
I have a good feel and knowledge of the Rolex market but no practical knowledge of the Omega market to draw upon.
Thinking of something like this for the wife and am keen to get some practical advice RE pricing, discounts etc
https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/watch-omega-de-...
Should in-store discounts be a thing I'm looking for on these? If so, at what level?
I assume residuals are pretty terrible compared to Rolex.
(open to other suggestions of course)

10% should be achievable in store without any drama from my own experience.
Residuals aren't terrible, although that said ladies watches are less desirable than men's. It won't go up in value like a Rolex though.
Have a look on Chrono 24 and that will give you an idea of used values.

In my humble opinion, it isn't even worth worrying about the residuals on ladies watches because women don't generally feel the need to chop and change jewellery they have been given, nor do they usually want to trade it in for something else.
If I buy my wife a relatively expensive watch, jewellery, handbag etc, then I fully expect to never have to have anything to do with it again in a financial sense. It will disappear into her collection of 'stuff' and be either worn or not worn, but either way, it is highly unlikely she will ever want me to sell it or change it for a different one.
Women tend to be a bit more sentimental about stuff like jewellery. Once they have it, they are keeping it as it means something.
Or I could just be talking utter b
ks.
Values aside, the only thing that concerns me is that the Omega isn't particularly exciting to look at.
If it was me, I wouldn't be spending £3340 on a new Omega, I would be spending £4000 on a used Rolex Datejust. They look a touch more interesting and you can get one with a diamond bezel and diamond markers for the aforementioned £4k.
Ladies love diamonds and they will also appreciate having something that says 'Rolex' on it as the chances are that won't know what the hell an Omega is unless they are 'into watches'.
Just my two pence worth

Yeah, totally agree about the residuals being largely irrelevant in these circumstances - just idle curiosity on my behalf really.
Valid point on the second-hand Rolex being a more 'sensible' choice, it's just perhaps as a gift I think the whole 'shiny & new' thing is probably a factor - secondhand might not strike the right chord... I could be wrong.
When I was in the Omega store yesterday I was shocked to learn many of the models are quartz even at a few grand! Age-old debate of course, but I couldn't get my head around 3k for a quartz watch.

Honestly, I don't think the 'shiny and new' thing matters one jot with stuff like watches, jewellery, art, etc.Valid point on the second-hand Rolex being a more 'sensible' choice, it's just perhaps as a gift I think the whole 'shiny & new' thing is probably a factor - secondhand might not strike the right chord... I doubt anyone would complain about being bought 'secondhand' Tiffany or Cartier diamond jewellery from Bonhams, secondhand pearls, a second-hand piece of artwork for the wall, secondhand antique furniture etc etc
I would love it if my wife bought me an 'old secondhand' Lamborghini Miura

Searches on C24 are not yielding many 4k DateJusts though!
There's a nice 276200 at £4,850

Are you specifically wanting something the same size, or larger, than the Omega? (33mm) Or not too fussed either way? Because I would suggest not being put off by the 26-28mm Datejust models. They look very elegant and are a good size for the slimmer wrists of ladies.

I'm actually after a small case size - Mrs is tiny, so targeting 26 - 30mm
OP, I appreciate that it might spoil a surprise but have you asked your wife which she'd prefer? After all, she's the one who'll wear it. Regardless of the value I actually prefer (and wear) an Omega. I find the Rolex a bit 'blingy' and prefer the simpler, understated look of the Omega. Of course, it's a matter of personal preference.
I must say I think the Omega ladies watches look very well finished and appealing. Having looked at the Rolex's in eBay links I think some of the bracelets may disappoint in the flesh, there's some meaningful ageing present.
I haven't asked her directly, but having been together for over a decade I have a solid idea of what she likes and doesn't like. She's certainly not 'blingy', understated would be the way forward... fancy bezels are not required.
I looked at a few Breitling models too but have no real measure of their quality.
