Advice on buying hatchback
Discussion
Hi i'm starting the search to buy a car, was looking for some advice to help narrow it down.
Main factor is reliability and price, as looking to keep for at least 5 years ideally. Mainly a car for getting to work (locally) but capable of the occasional longer journey.
I'm looking to spend £4k-£7k.
Hatchback but would be open to something bigger.
1.2-1.4 Petrol Manual
Not fussed about colour/looks or extras.
Any pointers on cars to avoid as well due to known design flaws or known expensive parts that need replacing after a certain time.
Thanks for any help
Regards
Brian

With that kind of budget if you want low maintenance but something that'll do motorway too then I'd say a 1.6 Kia Ceed 4 Tech is a great pick:Main factor is reliability and price, as looking to keep for at least 5 years ideally. The top end of your budget will land you a new shape 1.4T Astra which I think is the pick for your budget:

Don't believe what people tell you about Alfa Romeos and their lack of reliability, the Giulietta is fantastically reliable, much more than a VW Golf. The big bill they throw up is the timing belt, which needs doing every 72,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. This one has just had a new one, so should be good for another 5 years. This is my pick
