When I purchased my 1994 Chimaera 4.0 during lockdown, the seller told me there weren't any immobiliser fobs with the car.
I assume it has an alarm / immobiliser, but haven't yet explored under the dash to look see?
He added that " fobs are a pain, just use the key, to lock / unlock the doors". So I wasn't sure the car had ever had any, or perhaps he'd lost them?

I accepted that at the time, but have electrical parasitic battery drain issues, and need to ascertain if the original car was supplied with a 'fobbed' immobiliser, to decide which route to take in replacing , repairing or ditching, the alarm / immobiliser apparatus?

Does anybody have a similar year unadulterated car, that could confirm what the car would have originally been specified with?

What does the panel think is best route please?

Your thoughts/ suggestions appreciated.

Hi,

Have you any idea what sort of alarm is fitted? Post a picture of the fob will help identify. Also is there one of these

With the led flashing installed next to the ignition key but closer to the dash?

This will enable us to point you in the direction of someone to help.

Regards, Brian

Brian, I just have a key that activates the door locks when inserted into the door handle thumb button. (some cars don't have buttons with key slots - but mine has?)

The key slot door opener buttons went out in approx. late 1994. So as an earlier model, it wouldn't have had the Meta immobiliser system (and the bypass fob slot shown above), but possibly Gemini or Foxguard. HF are very helpful in my experience:

Mine was 1995 and had a foxguard Alarm which just had fobs to arm/disarm.
Only way to investigate is to take the dash top off and have a look at the brain which should be clearly visible.

This ^ my 95 without the key slots but silver buttons came with a Foxguard sadly long gone for a newer CAT1 laugh

Depended on what was left it appears then. smile

I had a Dec 1994 registered Chimaera 500 (serpentine) way back in 2001 that had the Meta system.
