Can Anyone Help With An LG Television
Discussion
A cursory google suggests you need a spinning disk drive or SSD, not USB, to pause Live tv.
ETA perhaps more helpfully, the user documentation has all sorts of USB guff relating to file formats and size and whatnot, and the ‘recording live tv’ part only suggests using a USB HDD is preferable.

Really? The stick allows me to pause in catchup.
Are you sure it's the USB drive that's allowing you to pause in catch-up, and you're not just pausing the stream itself? I can pause Catch-Up too (Pana GX800) with no USB drive attached. The TV isn't recording the Catch-up stream, it's simply decoding it as it is delivered. Live TV is different. That definitely needs something to record on to if pause/rewind functions are to be used. Live TV isn't an on-demand service, whereas Catch-Up is. Do you see the difference?

I bought an LG OLED55CX5LB tv. I put a USB memory stick into one of the ports which allows me to pause programs in catch up but not on live television. Is there a solution, perhaps a different memory stick?
Tellies can be fussy about the USB memory, but also which USB port is used. You've already heard about the possibility of needing a solid state USB HDD drive rather than a USB pen drive. There are some other things to check:Is the drive a USB 3.0 device
Is the drive big enough
Is it plugged in to the TV's USB 3.0 port. (The CX5 has one; it's on the side (not one of the two on the back)
has the drive been formatted in either FAT32 or NTFS
has the drive been initialised by the TV (this and the point above could be one and the same thing)
Even if you get all these ducks in a row, you might still find that a USB pen drive doesn't work, but a USB SSD does so long as there's enough power from the port for it.
In addition, the LG TV has a kind of low power / auto off mode for USB devices that will need to be disabled if you want to record via USB.
Even after all this, the feature is only useful for the channel being watched, or when the TV is in standby. AFAIK, a lot of the LG TVs with dual tuners (Freesat and Freeview) lack the ability to allow the recording from one tuner whilst viewing a different channel on the other. Personally I think the easy answer is a standalone PVR, but that's just my opinion.
