RoverV8 main cap side clearance.
Discussion
On the 4.0/4.6 cross bolted block, there is a very slight ridge and the base where the main caps are located. This has the effect of providing a clearance between the side of the main cap on the block (abt 0.004"), which is reduced when the actual cross bolt is tightened.
I'm curious why the gap is there in the first place..is it to accommodate the different expansion rates between the alloy block and steel main cap?
