Octavia VRS Diesel Vs 320D Estate Choices
Discussion
Good morning all,
My Arona lease is due to end - great little car but I’m looking to buy my next motor instead of leasing.
Increase in miles due to work and play and the necessity for a hatchback/estate for dogs has lead me to the estate diesel options above as I like the look of them and they seem to have good performance/running costs.
Budget is between 3-6k - which would you go for (or what else would you buy?)
Cheers - Stu

BMW for me, not biased, just a much better car to drive, good allrounder the 320d - probably better residuals aswell (if that even matters)
Not as roomy though as the SKODA
Timing chains aside, its a rare occurrence on later models, what year you looking at, was revised in 2010+.
318d doesn't suffer with swirl flaps either, only the 320d+ had these installed. My 318d 2012 is up to 138.000 miles now, still a lovely car to drive and run.

Had both
Skoda is more practical (passenger room and boot space), handles better than you think
BMW is more refined and being rwd and balanced is a much more satisfying drivers car. Probably the nicest 2.0 diesel ive used, the roll on acceleration between 60-90 feels like a much bigger engine

Yeah the 318D does seem a decent option too. Don’t mind the age so much just one that is mechanically sound and in budget.

Been looking at options to change my current E91 320d but I cant find anything which appeals to me that I think would do the job as well within ~10k of the BMWs value.
They’re a brilliant all rounder, I had a look to try and get a feel for where I’d be with price for mine and it looks like they are getting much harder to find with decent spec/history and in acceptable condition.
Got a lot of time for the Octavia though, don’t think you’ll make a bad choice regardless of which option you go for really.

I think I’m leaning towards the beemer as I have never had one yet I’ve had many VAG cars including a MK1 Octavia VRS. Actually thinking 318D may be a good shout now looking at the £30 tax and performance/economy… shall have to go and try a few out!

I just sold a 20011 E91 320d msport with full service history, 4 new tyres and 150k on the clock for £4k and IMO it was a good buy for the buyer, a very capable car and still drove like a much much younger carThey’re a brilliant all rounder, I had a look to try and get a feel for where I’d be with price for mine and it looks like they are getting much harder to find with decent spec/history and in acceptable condition.

Out of the two it would be the Skoda BUT in reality I'd be buying the best Mondeo I could find, they're a better steer than the Skoda & also have better NVH's levels than the Skoda & more space:
