You can do what you want with your own car colour really, if manufacturers had more interesting colours and people were not afraid to buy them it might not be as common. Otherwise it is a good way to temporarily personalise your car for a modest outlay.

Taste is of course relative.

As long as the owner likes it what's it got to do with anyone else?

Adds a layer of protection to the existing paint so cant really be a bad thing

I think when used for colour changes to something you really want that is hard to find in the car you have, ie Riviera Blue on a Porsche or Yellow on a Ferrari, then why not ? I'm not a fan of matte finishes, camo look or reflective wraps, those in my eyes are a little too try hard !!

Something that I have always wondered if you wrap a car do you need to notify the DVLA of the colour change?

Depends on how well it's done and what materials been used, went to see a car and didn't realise it was wrapped until the bonnet was opened which did still slightly put me off as wondered what may be underneath.

With most people PCP'ing cars wraps are one of the limited modifications you can do and reverse before handing back which is why they are so popular as spec'ing any colour apart from white or black in the dealership usually adds a hefty premium.

If it's a full colour change, then yes.

Wraps are fine, ultimately though it’s the colour / finish that’ll make or break them.

Cheap jobs where things like the door shuts are ignored are a bit crap.

Yes, but nearly everyone who does it picks outrageous colours thus making them uncool for trying too hard.

I guess it depends on what car. There's a normal 3 series (320 or something) by me with some kind of chrome colour changing wrap which looks awful.

I think they can be cool, but more often they are not cool.

It's entirely their opinion as it's their car and anyone saying anything like "it's tacky" or "trying too hard" or anything like that doesn't understand personal taste.

I have zero opinion because it literally makes no difference in my life what colour someone wants their car .

Except if you have to give a description to the police of the colour of the car you just saw doing a hit and run.

Is it a myth/just plain wrong then that because its a sticker and not considered permanent you only have to inform your insurance not the DVLA of the colour change?

I'd tell both to avoid any issue but always heard the previous banded around on the internet

It is indeed a personal taste thing, and to be honest though I might not want it on my own car I can still appreciate it.

Think there is plenty of room for something a bit outlandish and striking in a sea of monochrome.

There was a matte purple Mercedes SLS locally with purple neons underneath, it looked other worldly at night and keep seeing a chrome red wrapped Golf GTI and that looks fantastic as well.

I quite like the sort of distressed Martini livery wraps some have put on Porsches and some of the ones that look like rust are really cool as well.

I would go a little more subtle but love seeing the mad stuff.

Is wrapping acceptable? Yes!

Are some of them gash? Yes!

Are they all gash? No!

Are some better than others? Yes!

Will you ever come back to a thread you started to give your opinion? No!

I think a tribute motorsport wrap can look cool.

But for every one of those there's hundreds of these horrendous wraps.

Ive never seen a wrap and thought that looks better than a standard paint job.

If anything I just wince and think of the logistics: is there any point washing a Matt wrap, are the shut lines done, Under the bonnet? What does the v5 say, would you ever want to turn up to a funeral/ job interview in it?
