House ethernet/wifi questions - Virgin
Discussion
I've got 200mbps+ broadband coming in to my house from the Virgin Hub.
Broadband is distributed around the house using 2 Powerline boosters and additionally 2 ethernet cables downstairs which I connect to other TVs.
The house is extended but the consumer unit was replaced so all electrical connections are received through the one box.
My 2 powerline boosters are on the new part of the house, and theyre pushing out around 120mpbs. Both are downstairs.
Upstairs receives about 20mpbs so a significant drop.
What are my options to improve the signal upstairs? More powerlines or could I buy something which I can connect onto the end of the 2 ethernet cables downstairs which will distribute a Wifi around the ground floor and then use the powerlines upstairs?

Are you trying to boost wifi or provide a better wired/virtually wired lan? Wasn't clear from your post
I've got Virgin 350... I use that slaved as a modem to a Tenda router unit at the moment,
Wifi perfomance of the Virgin box was becoming problematic with being over subscribed with 4 in the house and found black spots in the house for signal using an android app. Initially I had a couple of TP Link Archer C9's but had 2 die under warranty
Upgrading the WiFi made a massive improvement to the signal, provides 2 seperate wifi points for 5GHz and 2GHZ so you can put high volume stuff like TV/Firestick/Consoles etc on the faster 5GHZ then others on the 2GHZ like kindles/alexa/etc
My desk runs on a TP-Link Powerlan with the other unit near the router - my house is on radials and I found one plug in my office runs about twice the speed of the other. My desk runs on that, I can at times be uploading/downloading large data so nice to keep that off the WiFi where possible - you can get units similar to this that will also pump out a wifi signal, I put one in my parents house for them

This I have at the top of my house, it connects into your wifi then repeats the signal, can connect LAN also which my wifes desk is on currently

You could boost in off an ethernet cable with something like this also either repeating the same wifi or providing its own wifi end point

So your upstairs poor performance is over WiFi direct to the hub ?
You can put another of the same powerline device (as long as it supports multiple device) then put another WiFi hub (with its router switched off) to give better WiFi upstairs but it might be better to use a cheap mesh.
The BT mini's are surprisingly good for the price.

Since I got a simple mesh system (BT Mini) I have been really surprised at how capable WiFi can be. Definitely if you are using a lot of WiFi stuff - especially if you are running your main computing/gaming kit off it - either a good WiFi router or a decent mesh system is a must. The built in WiFi of most ISP provided hubs/routers is only just about acceptable for light use IMO, once I started the WfH malarkey it became obvious very quickly I needed to address my Homehub WiFi.
Powerline is also capable of delivering great results. I still find it superior to WiFi for Gamestream/Steamink from my main gaming PC to Shield TV. However, it can really depend on your house's electrical wiring. Works great for some people, horribly for others. I've been lucky in always having good results where I've used it. But I do find that the quality of adapters can be variable .. at the moment I'm having issues with a set of Zyxel AV1000 adapters 'locking up' frequently (I think one has become faulty as it gets quite hot now) and when I tried a couple of new Tenda AV1000s to replace them, their performance was all over the place so I'm on to a new set of Netgear AV1000 plugs which hopefully will be stable and reliable.

Direct Ethernet will always be the best for speed and reliability. For anything else a Mesh WiFi set up is the best way to go.
I have a 600mb Virgin connection and I am seeing 350/400mb consistently around the house which is great for WiFi and I am getting 120mb in the far end of the garden where I struggled to get signal before. Place the Mesh system around the house in the best places and you will never look back. I use TP link Deco's and they do a range for all budgets.

Maybe not the best technical solutions. One can try the special software for boosting your wi-fi. Some of them work pretty well. These programs change the parameters of the connection and such a way one can achieve the speed indicator adjustment. Lots of such software one can find on the site https://torrentsites.com/best-torrent-sites
