Hi, the photo is my parents outside their new home in 1969.

The Rolls was his first of several over the next 20 years, and I would like to trace the plate.

It’s not showing on DVLA database that I can see. Is there any way to know if it still exists?

The number is 888 WJH

Thanks

The chap who maintains the "single-single" website posted the DVLA response when he asked them to confirm whether certain combinations had ever been issued, and it was basically "no". So unless there's a chance it's still on the car, in which case you could try various RR owners clubs, I'd say you're out of luck. Data Protection GDPR, innit?

Obviously you've looked up Is it taxed / MOT'd?
https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

and the answer is Vehicle details could not be found

Unless some has any knowledge to the contrary, other than writing to DVLC to see if they might be willing to 'release' the combination you want, I doubt it.

Could you 'buy' something similar eg Y888WJH?

Superb photo !

The plate is a Reading issue.

The Rolls is an S.1 Silver Cloud.

The RR Enthusiasts Club will highly likely have the cars original build info and possibly details of it having a plate change.
Well worth contacting them !

Thanks for replies,

I’ve emailed RREC,and will see if they have any information

The only other way I guess is to contact plate dealers to see if they have it for sale.

Be careful doing that: it's a sure fire way to alert them to it's potential availability, and they're bound to have more efficient ways of locating and securing it than you.

No problem if you're willing to pay their healthy premium ...

If it's not showing on the DVLA checker, then almost certainly the reg number has 'gone' and is no longer attributed to anything.

We had a car that had been off of the road since 1980. It didn’t show on DVLAs on line system.
Previous owner had lost the V5.
Once we received a new V5, the car was back on the online system. DVLA hadn’t destroyed the cars record.

It may just be on retention, I believe plates on retention also don't show up because it's a vehicle check, not a registration check.

That’s what I’m hoping ……
