DIY servicing peeps... where you at??
Discussion
Yesterday I spent 30 mins trying to remove a oil filter using my oil filter removal tool:

There was hardly any room for movement and also, this thing scratches up the oil filter like crazy. I've had enough of it and now in the market for a new tool. I only service my own cars, so doesn't need to be an expensive removal tool. Interested to know which one you use and/or which one is the best?
I've seen theres:
Chain type: https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cht243-oil-filter-...
Cup type: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/312845192457
3 legged prong type: https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/automoti...
Which one is the best to go for? My friend said 3 legged type. But im edging towards the cup set.

Is it the type of filter where you replace the whole cartridge, or one where you replace the filter within a reusable housing? If the former, hammering a screwdriver though it works pretty well; if the latter isn't there a nut on the end you can get a socket/spanner onto?
If you're going to buy a tool, you want one which auto-tightens as you put pressure on it. No idea what brand it is, but mine looks roughly like this:

Depends on access but I have never failed to undo a filter with the above.

I've got an very old version of this (think 1970's vintage!) that my dad had, and still used today.

This may explain your need for removal tools if you do all your own servicing......

Haha, that explains it. I tighten with the tool. I've serviced all my cars all my life 25+ years but recently I've got a nissan that has the metal oil filter, i've never had them on all my previous cars, they've always been filter housing that you remove (usually with a bolt on the top that you use a ratchet on). This may explain your need for removal tools if you do all your own servicing......

After years of struggling with various Strap wrenches, fancy self crushing twisty things, hammers and screwdrivers, etc. I now have these https://www.halfords.com/tools/hand-tools/pliers-a... but bought mine on ebay for a few quid. even manage a mk1 mx5 with them.
