Ok, here goes....

Two computers and one d link wireless modem hub all working fine wirelessly.
Both computers can connect to the internet and both see each other for transfering files but I can only transfer files on the laptop, I can't access the laptop from the desktop.
I just get 'don't have permission to access this resource'

Any ideas? Please!

Right click "My Computer" and manage. Look in local users and groups. Under users on each computer you should have the same username present on each machine, each with the same password.

You should be logged in as this user when you are trying to file share.

I don't have 'users' on this machine; only the laptop.

If it is, start > Settings > Control panel and create your matching user from there.

XP Home, the work of Satan

OK, I've changed my user name to match the laptop but I still don't see USER when I manage.

Should I chuck it out the window?

Yes

That doesn't actually work! On XP Home it just changes the display name, not the actual name. Daft? Yup. In control panel there should be users.... you may have to change to classic view to see it. Create a new user with a name the same as the laptop.... Or is it the desktop

I hate XP Home

Isn't there a mod that turns xp home into pro? A registry tweak or something?

Nope, still no joy. Strangely, If i bring another laptop2 into the equation, both my desktop and my original laptop access this laptop2 without any problems. I can transfer files via laptop2
