I know there are a lot of regional preferences - so to to start the ball rolling, a fairly average steak and gravy pie (a la LIDL) with oven chips and sugar snaps:

What have you got?

No picture, but I would go with broccoli. Though sugar snap peas are a good call. And a Mud steak & Stilton for me.

Broccoli or peas usually as the side. Though, again, sugar snaps is a good call.

And red sauce.

My Granny had those plates!

A pie has to have pastry all around, it can’t be a ceramic pot of meat with a lid dropped in the top, and I prefer crunchy pastry to puff.

That's a nice looking pie as far as it goes. But needs a bit of kidney in the pie, way more gravy and some cheese on the chips. Also lose the beans.

I'm a peasant smile

I like a pie made with a puff pastry base and a crust made with atora, this is called suet pastry and has a satisfying crunch to it. So, this is good with extra gravy, creamy mash and peas. yumm
Savoy cabbage is also good.

Any decent pie/corniche pasty smothered in mushy peas then a layer of sliced onions that have been soaking in a bowl with vinegar for several hours and finally blobs of mint sauce liberally scattered on top!! Beautiful!

When having pie n chips I like to buy tubs of beef gravy that my butcher makes, it's the best gravy I've ever had.

But I MUST have Hendersons relish with any pie n gravy. Not sure if it's available everywhere, or just in Sheffield?
I splash it on pies, chips, lasagne, shepherds pie etc.

It is, but we call it Worcester sauce. Lea and Perrins is a popular brand though I'm sure other vinegar and tamarind condiments are available.
You may have also heard of HP. Same flavours, different bottle.

Steak pies from our local butcher, Kitsons Northallerton, huge chunks of steak that fall apart as you break into the pastry, mash and mushy peas in the winter. New potatoes and garden peas in the summer. Cant knock a decent pie, perfect quick and easy meal.

Kitsons do huge variety of pies, so mix it up from standard steak whenever we pop in to grab some. Corned beef pie with cheesy mash and baked beans is a favourite of ours on a cold winters night.

I tend to bring quite a few pies home from there whenever I head back South. They really are excellent.

Absolutely. Shortcrust over puff pastry every time!

Are you allowed to leave the pastry (of whatever type) and just eat the innards? Or is that just a stew??

I'm fortunate enough to live by one of the very best pie makers in the country - Turners Pies.

So from there. Ideally steak and ale, or chicken and asparagus.

Chips, peas (or ideally fresh runner beans from the allotment) and gravy. Touch of mint sauce (I fooking adore mint sauce, essentially anything 'traditional British' except steak gets good mint sauce added).

Heathen. Lea and Perrins is a brand of Worcestershire sauce. Hendo’s isn’t.

For the op, you can now get Hendo’s in most big supermarkets, thankfully smile

Give over, It's Worcester sauce with clove instead of anchovy.

Ah! I see it is marketed as "Northern", so probably lauded by the same people who only drink Yorkshire tea, and who can blame them, the plantations of Harrogate and Keighley are surely the envy of the world!
hehe

Pie with full crust surround. Chips chunky, sea salt and malt vinegar.

If pie is to be had with chips, pie shall have enough liquid inside to mitigate the addition of sauce.

Pie usually tastes better if homemade.

Seasonal greens.

I do enjoy a pie but.
There's something deeply satisfying about turning your pie into a massive sandwich with two heavily buttered door stops of bread.
I actually have steak and stilton pie to thank for getting me into blue cheese, which I previously wasn't keen on.
Thanks pie.
