Notice Period

Hi All,

Quick question for you all:

What happens if you agree a notice period with a employer on an e-mail, start the job, never get a contract formally detailing the notice period?

My fault I joined the company without a contract……… three years on and still no contract, it’s a shower of sh…..
I have a e-mail agreeing to give and receive three months.
But no contract, can I leave after 1 month?

Although three months has been loosely agreed and I will honour this if I have to, where do I stand in getting out early?

The email may act as the contract.

The terms were laid out in email, and either directly accepted in reply, or indirectly accepted with the fact that they allowed you to start without stating the contrary.

It get's tricky sometimes if the email were to say something like "subject to contract, you'll need to work 3 months notice" but in the absence of the contract, the email will likely be binding.

Ok, that’s what I thought and am prepared for.
I’ll just have to negotiate the period down.
