I've an S21 Ultra, so I won't be upgrading for another 18 months (when the contract ends).
They do look quite smart, but as above, is it a solution looking for a problem ?
I have the S21 Ultra too, it's a shame the camera on the fold 3 can't at least equal our phones. That way, I wouldn't need a Tab S7+ for watching video etc. Until then, I'll keep the same setup. They do look quite smart, but as above, is it a solution looking for a problem ?
I have had a serious look at the flip... I have an S9+ which is fine but software no longer supported. I kind of want a new shiny thing but don't need it.
I want something smaller, but top performance. So I thought this folding phone could be the answer. Turns out unfolded it's bigger than an S9+!!!
And its expensive even with a £255 trade in for a damaged S9+ ( which i think is a stonking incentive) if pre-ordered, and a 5% discount if paid on Samsung pay.
Pixel 6 looked cool, but the smallest is also bigger then the S9+... so now looking at a Pixel 5... but feels like old tech. The chip benchmarks at about 1/3 of the performance of the latest Samsung.
Trade in against an S21 which is a little smaller but with same size screen, has less trade in value so is expensive... I'm in a bit of a pickle with it all.
Might get a flip for novelty and forget about a smaller phone in the hand... I used to love my original Motorola razor.

On the MKBHD Waveform podcast they did discuss that the flip is probably the mass market option and could be recommended to the average person.
Logic went that the fold is expensive and not quite there at achieving the goal of replacing a tablet.... but to meet the intention of being a compact phone that stores easily the flip kind of does what it set out to do so could be adopted my more non-enthusiast punters.
And I got the feeling that enthusiasts would probably just want an s21 ultra i guess

I've had my fold 3 since the 21st (seemed they were shipping them out a week early)
I'm thrilled with the thing, it feels a very polished device, and sturdy. having that un interrupted screen to view content is lovely, the quality of the under display camera is said to be not ideal, but I can't remember the last time I took a selfie, it should be fine for zoom etc.
I don't mind the size of the smaller outside screen, in fact, as its slimmer, the phone is easier to hold one handed.
The inside screen is just fantastic, the crease doesn't bother me at all, and dissappears as soon as you start viewing it
The camers aren't too bad, but it would have made it perfect if they had put the s21 Ultras camera array on it (I sold my S21 for this)
The S pen is great on the larger screen, and feels perfectly safe, as the nib is retractable if there's too much pressure on the screen. It would have been great if they could have made the outside screen compatible, for quick note taking, also a place to store the S pen.. Rather than the free folio case, which is rather cumbersom.
I am thrilled with it though, it will be interesting to see how the tech progress.
