Leaving Las Vegas - soooooperb!

Watched Leaving Las Vegas (Nicolas Cage, Elisabeth Shue) last night and I have to say what an absolutely superb film.

To anybody who doesn't know the film it is essentially about an alcoholic (Cage) who sells everything he owns, moves to Las Vegas all to simply drink himself to death!

He even works out how long it will take him and how much he can afford to spend each day! What he doesn't bank on is falling in love with a hooker (Shue) who feels the same way about him, sheeesh!


I really found it both moving and amusing at the same time, and it was superbly acted by Nicolas and Elisabeth.
It was one of those rare films that actually 'got me' whilst I was sitting there watching it (alone).

I have always admired Cage's acting and in this film he really out did himself, imho of course!

Anybody else seen it? Any thoughts?

It's a great film. I'd never really thought about alcoholism and what it really is like until seeing it portrayed in Leaving Las Vegas.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry at the scene where he's filling his shopping trolley with enough booze to make George Best blush.

Never seen Matcstick Men so I'lll have to rent that one out too! Silly question, is Matchstick Men a Nic Cage film too?

Nic Cage is in matchstick men, went straight to dvd last year (no cinema) so expected it to be poor, but thought it was really brilliant.

Won't spoil anything, but about con men.

The final twist in Matchstick Men is a beauty. Well worth an hour or two of your time

i've seen Leaving Las Vegas at least 10 times but still watch every time it is on the telly fantastic film It was actually on a lot earlier in the night than it normally is too
