Does anyone have any bright ideas about releasing stuck piston rings?
I have stripped a Fiat twin cam engine which had been standing for a few years and the top ring on 3 out of the 4 pistons are stuck in their grooves.
I have tried soaking them in a WD40 bath for weeks, also liberal application of Plusgas over a long period.
I want to reuse the pistons (they are HC type), any ideas?
Thanks.

Heat the piston crown centrally with a heat gun, keeping the heat off the rings. Or stand it on an electric hotplate. The differential expansion alone may be enough to free them, if not, plunge into cold water and repeat the heating as necessary, and they will eventually spring out. For preference replace the rings. A blowtorch may be used instead of a heat gun, but there is a risk of melting the piston.

Cellulose thinners cheapo gun-wash grade will do , leave soaking overnight (big bowl etc) agitating occasionally will help its not corrosive so longer the better the carbon will just turn into a slimy gunge and wipe away

Into the piston - like inside the piston? What good will that do - I don't follow your reasoning?
