Why do some companies make it difficult to stop cookies? BBC you especially!

I do not want companies to put cookies on my computer, mainly cos I am running out of memory.

Most have a reject all button to click on which is easy to use, but a lot of companies try to make it very difficult to prevent them installing cookies.

I use an I pad air and clear out the cookies regularly, sometimes it is even difficult to recognise the company by their cookies and remove cookies that I want to keep. Even when the I pad states that no memory is used to keep the cookies and I delete then they still show on the list

A curse on IT managers who make it difficult, can anyone with more knowledge than me explain how I get rid of these?

Poorly implemented interpretation of poor legislation.

There are browsers with better privacy but private mode is enough for me, just.

Cookies don’t use any material amount of memory or disk space.

Thanks for reply

So why can I not remove them completely? List shows no memory allocated but they are still on the list

You can, all browsers have the ability to empty cache, clear cookies etc. As said though the reason it says they take up no space is because they take up so little space.

I've heard good things about Brave, a privacy focused browser if that's your concern, not sure it's available for ios.

You would need to look at every websites privacy policy, hope it actually states what cookies they are putting on your device etc if you want to know what has come from where. Or like 99.9% of the population, don't stress and identify the real cause of your devices memory issues, likely app data and/or images/video.

It’s a bit like asking why you can’t completely remove all the files from your computer full stop. Because it won’t work without them. The vast, vast majority of websites won’t work without cookies, simply put. You may choose to opt out of certain types (typically, marketing / retargeting) but for instance for you to be able to log in and post in this thread, you have to have cookies.
