S21U no immediate email reception on 4G only

Ive recently changed network provider to 3.

When im out and about with no Wifi, my phone (Samsung S21U) doesn't receive incoming emails unless i open the email app (Microsoft Outlook and Gmail) then the email appears.

If i'm connected to Wifi, the emails are received immediately and i'm notified, no matter what state the phone is in.

I'm pretty sure with my previous provider (Plusnet 4G) emails were received immediately with notification, when i had no Wifi.

I cant see anywhere on the phone to make changes to how emails are received when only cellular connection is available.

Can anybody offer any pointers as to how to fix this?

I'm also on 3 and have an S21U. My email client (Bluemail) works just as you have described, so when at home on wi-fi, it receives emails all the time, but when on data it's only when I open the mail, or I think it does sync, but less often.

Maybe there's a way to change it ? But not that I've found.

"Metered connection" is the phrase used by my phone and laptop when prompting a download, dunno if that will help you with your search.

Snuffy, i think ive sorted this in the most unlikely way.

Its down to the Adult content filter that Three have turned on by default. Turn it off and all works.

That's very odd !!

I didn't know there was one.

Is that done in your 3 account ? I wonder if that's a newish thing, and since I've been with 3 since Adam had a mobile, it's not turned on with mine ?

I had to do it using the 3 App on my phone, with wifi disabled. It's a right faff, but i got there in the end. I have only been with 3 for a matter of months though.

I had a look, thanks. You are right, their new app is dreadful (I've no need to use it so I've not looked at it for ages), and I managed to find the option. It was turned off on mine, but then I've been with 3 for years and it seems they only turn it on by default for new customers.

It's still odd that the adult content filter affects email reception. Unless it also checks incoming email and maybe finds adult emails (I get endless spam which would trigger it) and that stops all emails ?
