hi all

as referred to in another thread on bike banter, I was stopped and shown a laser reading of 91mph on the motorway 4ish weeks ago.

i thought i could wait it out but the suspense for the letter to arrive is killing me. Im anticipating 6 points and fine as its a 'band C' offence (90-100) from what i gather.

has anyone had a similar story that i can gauge my pending punishment on?

A you were stopped there is a 6 month limit, I heard of my court appearance a week or so before the deadline.

I was stopped for 105-110mph and got 6 points, assuming the motorway was a 70 limit you'll be getting a normal 3 point FPN I reckon - they're normally used to ~96mph

The NIP must be served to the driver or registered keeper of the offending vehicle within 14 days of the offence.

If it was 4 weeks ago, you're in the clear.
i was hoping that but as i was notified of intended prosecution at the time i dont think the same rules apply

interesting, do you think i will have a court appearance ? 70mph limit yes . i'd be over the moon with 3 points.

2016 ish - Gantry camera on the m25, J29 coming off onto the A127 - 99mph - standard fine and fixed penalty. No court. couldn't believe it. Dodged a bullet there.

I got caught doing 92 on the M5. I was slowing down as I'd just noticed the Police car on the bridge, so I was happy with 3 points and a fixed penalty.

I was stopped a couple of months ago - 92mph - M4 I think.

Anyway it was £100 and 3pts. No court.

so they didnt pull you over though?

i saw this car behind me actually (too late as i believe he was coming down the slip road as i passed) but instinctively thought "dont slam the anchors on, and roll to a more sensible speed'

kinda wish i had just braked as he was quite away behind me

I was recently caught doing 94 in a 60 limit on the A83, which is a normal two-way country road.

I was told by the officers at the time that it was too high a speed to be dealt with by a FPN and to expect a letter from the courts.

About 2 months later I received an offer of 3 points and a £100 fine which I believe is no more harsh than a FPN would have been.

It is indeed!

I thought I was going to be royally fingered for that one but 3 points and £100 almost seems like good value.

Ok calm down Mr Brake.

the slip road is around half a mile long and straight. If you think slowing a modern audi s3 down from 99 to 0 in half a mile of a straight, two lane empty road is a problem, maybe you should take a test drive in something that isn't an Austin allegro to see how things have moved on.

I was caught doing 115mph on my Honda Fireblade about 20 years ago. I was on the A1(M) doing far more than that as I saw the police car sitting on the bridge. The very nice officer commented that he could see my back wheel rising in an alarming fashion once I’d seen him.

I went to court, suited and booted. Apologised profusely, explained that the road had been totally clear, good weather etc. Was given six points and a fine. The policeman in attendance that day at court was astonished I’d kept my license. I was pleased I’d turned up. I suspect it would have been a different outcome if I hadn’t been there to grovel in person.

Oh yes, he pulled me over. I dropped down to 70 (better late than never laugh) and sat watching my mirrors, and sure enough he came flying up behind me.
