If there’s one thing that bubbles my urine it’s rubbernecking.
However, having passed this mess not long after it happened, and being stunned that no one was killed I read the following…..

Is it only me that would like to see some very strong coverage of this with a list of names in the papers?
This crash was serious, it looked horrendous and it closed the carriageway for over 24 hours yet these vermin thought the best thing to do was slow down and film it, what kind of vermin does this?
Te police have managed to catch them on film so why not release it when all the letters and associated actions have been sorted, then let’s see how clever these idiots feel, sadly though I expect there is some kind of “rights” that will prevent this happening.

I can't see many arguments against bringing back stocks in the town square for this kind of thing, really.

While I don't for one minute condone people filming accidents, I do sincerely hope the police are not 'mistakenly' trying to prosecute people under the mobile phone legislation as such activities have already been found to be outside the current scope of that act.

The article mentions NIP's being sent to drivers - looks like the Police may be considering Driving without due care offences rather than mobile use

It’s ghoulish perhaps. But ironic that police will at some point be asking for dash cam footage as part of their investigation.

Everything is recorded by someone nowadays, so have to accept the bad as well as the good.

Honestly - getting likes on Facebook.
Pub banter laughing (esp if gore in vid).
Being the first to post on Twitter.
“The M1 is a car park, big crash” - dhead on local Facebook page.

Humans are vile.

I’ve got one going not guilty to court in a month or so… driving excessively slowly past a crash whilst filming with one hand. And then dropping the phone when they saw me watching.

Textbook ‘not in proper control’. I’ll enjoy that appearance.

Dash cam footage before or during an incident is one thing. Slowing down to film the aftermath while driving one handed with only half an eye on the traffic in front of you is another.

Bloody annoying too - often as much of the traffic issues are caused by the rubberneckers needlessly slowing down as the issues caused by the incident itself.

They said: "Police are appealing for information and video footage after a pedestrian sustained life threatening injuries following a serious collision in Great Sutton.
So the same Mr Plod wants people to video car crashes when it wants them to, but doesn't want them to video car crashes when it doesn't want them to.

Submitting dash am evidence is one thing. No manual intervention while driving.

Filming the aftermath of an accident with a hand held phone is another.

Sending in dash cam footage rather than recording the aftermath with a mobile at the wheel I would imagine.

many years ago my Wife overturned her car, it looked pretty bad & it was but thankfully she was unscathed. To my amazement this car pulls up with two young people & giggling started taking photo's etc , it did annoy me so I walked up to them & said "Someone Died" hoping to shame them , to my total amazement the passenger Ghoul taking the pic's face lit up with glee as he repeated this to the driver Ghoul ...

Both fairs points.

But we live in a world where people record everything. In these two cases, you can't get one without the other. So Plod either wants people to record stuff or they don't. Really, they can't have it both ways.

To be fair a couple of drivers came past me with an overturned car the other day giving it the old “you can’t park there sir” which I found moderately amusing.

Was the opposite side of the motorway live, or closed/blocked/cars stationary.

If the latter, what was the offence?
