Hi,
I am just about to start my motorsport degree and I have done a fair bit of 'work experience' for various company's. These include McLaren, GH Engineering and I am currently working for a uk based rally team running group N Imprezas. If you want to know any contact details of various people then let me know and I will send them to you, I can also get the contact info for someone at Lola (A1GP) and my dad has plenty of links at Lotus.
However I have found the best method to be to either send a cv or phone up the company and make your own contacts to start with. Once you have got contacts through smaller teams/company's these will lead to bigger and better things. If you make all your own contacts to start with then I have found all the company's will be much more impressed. Its only when going for jobs/experience at large F1/WRC teams that you really need to pull all the strings.
