Hi,

Having just bought a 2019 BMW X5, noticed the ambient lighting which is not working correctly.

I have also noticed a slit on the steering wheel...this is just 12hr into owning the vehicle

The ambient lighting will hopefully get sorted under warranty

The dealer has offered to fix the slit via a trimmer... is this acceptable? I have attached a pic

Was it on the cheap end of AUC pricing? (i.e.priced in).

The top layer of the steering wheel is made of rice paper.

I now have to wrap a cloth around the wheel first, before setting my stoplock, as this exact same thing happened on my X5M.
Not acceptable if you've only just bought the car and it was already there, but will probably occur again in the future.

I'd push for a new wheel cost them about £600 or there abouts.

For the steering wheel, depends on the trimmer, some of them do fantastic jobs, which are far better than OE.

Any way you can find out who will be doing the steering wheel repair so you can check them out?

I’d not be happy with that personally.

If they won’t sort it, someone like Royal Steering Wheels can retrim the wheel for sensible money.

was the slit not there when you viewed the car before purchasing ? Either way they are rectifying it at their cost.

The ambient lighting is one of those things hence a warranty
