Watch rotation
Discussion
I have 11 watches, 4 I tend not to wear any more. I have been pretty much just been wearing the same watch for months, but today put my Seiko Dawn Grey on.
How do people rotate their watches when they have a favourite? How often do you rotate?
I think that I could pretty much drop to 5 or 6 watches (sentimental value etc). How people with lots of watches manage to wear them all is beyond me!

As I've got older, tend to wear less of my dressier watches as generally don't wear a watch in the office (pre covid) while outside of work it's usually my cheaper Citizen/Seiko's and G shock's that I reach for more often.
It's at a point now where I want to move a couple on as they get no wear-time so would rather sell than leave them tucked away for years on end.

I once had 23 watches. Utterly pointless as I only wore 3 or 4 of them, although I did enjoy just handling them.
Sold the lot and went to two decent watches which kept me going for about ten years. Unfortunately the bug has now bitten again and I’m back up to 7 or 8….
And once again I find myself wearing only 3-4 of them. Two for work, two for best.

I think the best number for rotating is 6,
If you rotate weekly .. rotating 6 results in your new week's watch only being 1~2 date out
eg.. remove watch on 7th night, It will run out on 9th and be returning to wear on 11th of the next month
Of course this gets more complicated with 15 watches

I have 6 watches but only really wear 4 of them. One of which is a dress watch that I never wear and the other being an F91-W that I only wear when there is a risk that the watch will get damaged in some way or if I need a timer.
I'm not sure if it's realistic to have more than 7 watches if your goal is to wear them regularly. I find that it is good to force yourself to wear some of your less loved pieces as it makes you appreciate your more favoured pieces more. It's also a good idea to get some different straps for some of them to keep things fresh.
Ultimately if you find yourself never wearing a certain watch, it's probably time to move it on.

I have 10 and I wear them all. Each gets a month on the wrist before changing to the next in rotation. It takes a month before I start to lose interest, then the next one up feels like a new watch not having seen it for 10 months. I do get quite excited about new watch day. They live in a safe deposit box so it is a drive out to do the swap.
I’ve two more watches on order so, if they ever show, that’ll be 12 and each one will get it’s turn once a year. Then that will be me finished buying.

I rotate by using them for different things.
PO - for activities: Watersports, festival (on nato), throwing a rugby ball around with kids.
Exp 1 36mm - Office and dinner out
Yema Bronze - Working from home, when it’s very sunny, holidays, it’s an easy wear (smaller then PO) so just general daily wear
Hamilton - anytime it might get damaged, so camping, riding a bike, gardening etc…
GMT (new) - but intention is weekend wear when I don’t plan on getting dirty
Tag - never, was my first watch EXP 1 replaced it but I won’t sell.
IWC Rudolph - didn’t wear it much so it’s being sold
Dress watch is a gap - I want a gold Calatrava for smart occasions and special events

I have 7 in the collection
2 I won't wear as they aren't my style but sentimental value.
2 are G-Shocks, one is for dirty jobs at work the other has a step counter for active days.
I have an Omega PO on rubber strap which is my daily.
I have an Omega Seamaster 300 which I wear more occasionally on a bracelet as it is in perfect condition and was for my 40th.
I have a Seiko diver which again is an occasional work watch, it's more sentimental again but I do wear it
I donwant a Tudor Chrono even though I don't really need it so will probably get my name on a wait list for one.

Those are both lovely... have you posted a pic of the 300 before? If not, please do.I have an Omega PO on rubber strap which is my daily.

I have sold a few watches to clear the decks - Patek gone, JLC's gone. I am trying to be a one watch person with a Breguet, Omega PO GMT and a Sky Dweller (therefore failing in the one watch stakes). I only ever wear the Sky Dweller, will give the Omega to my son next year for his 21st and will keep the Breguet because it's so lovely.
I used to rotate randomly and then got an Apple Watch which I ended up wearing exclusively for years. Turned fifty and used that as an excuse to get a proper watch and wean myself off the smartwatch fixation
I also thought I’d end up rotating things about but I just wear my JLC all the time. I have a new Garmin fenix for working out which will also be my active holiday watch and then I have some nice Seiko watches and my old tag which I will try to rotate occasionally. Oh and a glycine I should probably sell.
I’m more into rotating straps on a single watch I guess. I have a JLC bracelet and calf strap for normal wear and a blue stingray for the odd change and a rubber on order for smart holiday wear.
The glycine has a few straps too and I also switch out the tag with a Hirsch alligator or it’s original bracelet.
I guess I’ll slowly start rotating more often but at the moment the novelty of the JLC is still hard to avoid.

I currently have four wacthes.
Three rolex sports models. One apple watch.
I only wear the apple watch when I need to be ultra discreet.
Otherwise the Subs my daily and my GMT my weekend/dress watch.
My yachtmaster....I need to let someone else enjoy.
I personally don't like to spend to much time thinking about what I'll wear for the day. Too many watches for me means far too many decisions so I keep my collection to my personal must have/best watches that I can afford at that moment in time.
As time marches on I hope to move to all Gold watches and the most watches I see myself having is around four.
Interesting thread OP.

I just put on what I fancy. Then again I am not a suit person so big diver all day every day lol.
I am a bit odd with straps so will often use that as my reason to rotate, so will change because I want a brown leather strap or a aqua rubber or purple patent leather crock, whatever fits what I am wearing.
