14 days from delivery.

If you collect then you don't get the cover.

They can't make you sign anything away, even if they try.

I bought a car earlier in the year. Paid for it without viewing and collected it. I was given lots of paperwork including a copy of my rights under distance selling to return the car within 14 days.

At the handover I wasn’t given time to view the car on the forecourt and had paid in full before I arrived. Not sure if this changes things.

My understanding is, if you set foot on the premises at any point during the process or use click and collect, distance selling rules will not apply.
I think this is correct as well, Our garage will not do distance selling or deliver any cars to someone who hasnt been on site and viewed the car, not worth the hassle to us

It is from collection or delivery, but distance selling will only apply if you bought without seeing it and signed paperwork remotely. So a click and collect can still count but only if everything was signed and paid remotely prior to collection.

Exactly, the advice given earlier in this thread that you you must not collect is plain wrong.

What matters is getting the CONTRACT made from a distance. That's when the SALE is made. The clock starts ticking when you take delivery, either by you collecting or seller delivering.

Note: For the avoidance of doubt finding a car on the internet, then going to look at it and buying it while you're there is NOT distance selling.

Doesn’t it depend on wether they have paid for it in full before they have seen the car/come to collect?

What also would matter in your example is when. I bought a car just as lockdown started to ease in April and I was given the 14 days to bring it back and they also held my M4 for 14 days too just incase I changed my mind. They had been doing this during the pandemic due to customers being unable to come and view and test drive cars.

So always worth asking what kind of refund and returns policy they have in place. Some brands under their AUC will also give a peace of mind guarantee i.e. BMW did/do offer 30 days return on AUC if you’re not happy.

OP - put some of the purchase price on a credit card, no matter how low the amount that will get you Section 75 cover, which can be extraordinarily useful. I once had a nightmare dealer trying to wash his hands of a faulty car. Section 75 got me every penny back.
