In clearing out my late fathers stuff I came across his watch. Before I chuck it in the bin or at a charity shop I thought I aught to check whether it is worth selling or whatever.
It is a seiko with date.
Dial is marked 7N42-0JS8 HR 2
Back is marked 7N42-0FPO R2
I have also found a receipt for £90 (discounted from £180?) from 2014 plus spare links.
Not being a watch expert, I would describe it as average condition. Plenty of minor scratches to the case and strap. The glass has a couple of small scratches. Generally looks reasonably presentable but obviously used as his everyday watch.
Currently stopped but, as it was his daily watch until he got ill, I would be surprised if it needed more than a battery.

Any thoughts? I am not really concerned about its value, more that I would rather not just chuck it in the bin!

Sorry to read about your father, difficult times. Don’t chuck it mate, I also found an old Seiko when my Grandad passed away.
That watch is from the late seventies, I think, and I managed to get it up and running with a little help from my local watch repairer. I still use it on occasion and keeps time well and with a change of strap looks really nice, IMHO.

If you don’t want it or think it won’t be used it there’s surely going to be someone on here who does.

Thanks.

Yes, that is the problem, I have no use for it (plus way too much clutter!). It is also relatively new so has no real sentimental value to me. But it seams a shame to just chuck it. So at the moment it is a toss up between a charity shop and ebay but I thought I would ask here first.

I'd drop it in the Seiko forum as well, people on here really like them. While I was replying to this I also posted mine in there.
There's something about watches that really resonates with lots. Good luck!

If you search 7N42-0FPO you will find it. Not worth much.

Definitely worth putting on eBay or even local free ads as it's far from a bin item.

Sad for your loss, one thing I noticed is the watch was bought from a shop in Stroud, where I live. Did your dad still live locally, are you originally from Stroud to?

Thanks, yes, maybe I will bite the bullet and try ebay. I guess I have nothing to lose.

Yes, Stroud was our local town.
