We've had people abusing RNLI volunteers for saving people and now this.
Woman arrested after 'disgusting' racist comments about death of tragic Afghan refugee who fell from hotel window

What the f
k is wrong with some people?I do wonder where we are going with all this .. I get it’s a fine line between free speech and abuse and I’ve no idea what has allegedly been said in this case
But the old adage “ sticks and stones will break my bones, words will never hurt me” seems a distant memory
I do find it troubling that we are increasingly punishing people for what they think and say

I still consider that freedom of speech must apply to all and this includes things I think are abhorrent, such as someone saying something nasty about the death of a poor child. And how awful the parents must be feeling right now, my heart goes out to them as I sit here with my five year old.
I don't know what kind of low life you must be to say something about the death of a five year old that is considered offensive though. I mean, someone that no-one in their right minds would want to associate with, but that is another question.

It's Thoughtcrime really that's illegal.Vile though it may have been, letting people hear it and judge her accordingly is better for us as a society.
Does make me wonder about people, have seen a purported advert for a "Kabul Skydiving Team" T Shirt with picture of people falling from a C17.
What kind of person does anything other than maybe think it, admonish themselves and move on, never mind printing a selling a T Shirt, and who the hell would buy and wear it ?

This just appeared in my Facebook feed barely 15 minutes ago. What kind of person does anything other than maybe think it, admonish themselves and move on, never mind printing a selling a T Shirt, and who the hell would buy and wear it ?
Extremely poor taste and I can't think for one moment why anybody would think this is funny.

I can think of a few in NP&E. What kind of person does anything other than maybe think it, admonish themselves and move on, never mind printing a selling a T Shirt, and who the hell would buy and wear it ?
The particular offence the police have arrested the woman for is explained.
We are restricted to what we can say in this country, to a greater extent than many other European countries, but most have laws against incitement and the police seem to feel they have sufficient evidence for incitement. Germany has particularly tight specific controls over certain aspects of what can be said.
This is not really a matter of free speech. It's intent, something that many offences take notice of.
I dislike the term hate speech. It shows wooly thinking. It does not define. However, if you say or post something that may incite others to commit offences, then the law takes an interest. And quite rightly.

What bothers me about these sorts of cases is that our over-stretched, under-manned police seem to have no problem throwing resources at them.
Or perhaps they're just easy 'wins'? The stroy reads like she tagged the police's social media account!
All the little digs to one side, it is probable - and all I can suggest is probability as I, like you, know nothing about the case other than what I've read but, unlike you, I'm aware of how at least one force deals with such matters - that complaints were made by those who thought the matter was an example of an offence. The police can file it for information, with a note to the complainants, which they do in most cases, or deal with the matter. This is normally via a single-crewed desk, manned by a civvy or a police officer.Or perhaps they're just easy 'wins'? The stroy reads like she tagged the police's social media account!

What did she say? I hate this trend in articles where they report someone has said something '-ist' but don't tel you what. This article even goes as far as to show the comments on her post but without what she actually posted.
Yes, I can't imagine what she said was especially pleasant, but tell me what it was and I'll decide how I feel about it.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
