Will changiing Huawei b311 4g router improve speed?
Discussion
Hello all,
As title really, currently have a huawei b311 4g router which is our primary Internet access (we live on a boat abroad) and as this is a pretty basic router (single band wifi etc) the speeds are OK but not great. Normally about 30md down and 5 up.
So, would changing to a newer 4g router improve the speed, something with dual band WiFi and faster down and upload capability?
We get a good signal strength here and my phone seems to get a lot faster speeds using speed test (same network) than the router!
Cheers in advance

wifi won't be your limiting factor, a different router with a better 4g modem / internal antenna might improve things but probably not my much, you probably want to try better placement or an external antenna.
I would try using it out in open air, if it is no better than chances are it is the isp throttling not signal strength.

You should notice a difference going to a higher CAT modem, the b311 is only CAT4 from memory which is pretty outdated now compared to what is in a phone.
You should get at least the same speed as on your phone hence if you upgrade to a better CAT modem.
I doubled my speed going from a B311 to a B618, which went up further again when I upgraded to a B818 modem for context (25 to 50 to 75 Mbps)…
External antenna also helps a lot if the signals not already strong without.
