As we all know the ISP's can't cope at peak times thus there are a few hours of frustration for us all so. . . . is there/how to download a media stream to watch when we want?

Cheers

Um.. what media exactly? And what level of legality?

My ISP copes at all times, we stream everything we watch, in 4k when available, and never have an issue

Find a better ISP, with lower contention (i.e. the number of users it sells the same piece of 'pipe' too).

Like the guys above, mine copes fines whatever the time if day.

I believe VLC player will allow you to do this, and maybe the Advanced Download Manager app (ADM) will as well.

I'm in a semi rural location, so Virgin isn't available. . . . how do I find the best ISP for my location and needs?

Thanks for the heads up on VLC

What's your current speed, and provider?

The cheaper ones will over-subscribe their capacity, the more expensive ones may not - although you're still limited by what the local exchange can provide.

You may get better speeds on an unlimited 4G broadband package (my back-up 4G EE SIM gives me 120mpbs down for £20/month but it limited to 160gb).

Doesn't really matter who you go with, it will all come down the same cabling.

I've thought this before, so what is my best option to watch streams when I want without it pausing, buffering? Cheers

As above, either move provider to one who sells less of the pipe , at more money, or look at something like Starlink to increase the speed of the pipe. Your costs will go up, so consider the value placed on speed.

What connection speed do you get? what is your device capable of, buffering can quite often be the device not capable rather than the connection.

For example the machine I'm on now gets 200 in and out, but if I put 1080 HD youtube on, the CPU goes through the roof and stutters.

What streams are we talking? This has a bearing on solutions.

I think the question is.. are they from legitimate sources ie Netflix, Amazon Prime or from other sources.

Is it streaming stuff from Netflix, Prime, and YouTube without an issue?

If it is then your connection is not the problem.
It's the streaming service you're using.

Using legitimate sources like netflix etc, you just need to see what is built in, some do some dont.
Otherwise you are looking at illegally downloading movie files to keep on a drive to watch later.

We used to have 2mbps broadband a million miles from the exchange and had no problems streaming Netflix, Prime, etc. just not at 4k. Could you drop the resolution?

I'm amazed you're struggling on 30+Mbps.

Just to clarify, nothing illegal but as I say it's as clear as mud to figure it out, I have no problems paying I just get earache from the wife when she wants to watch stuff 8pm-ish. . . . mornings, afternoons are no problems what so ever, everything works perfectly, it's just an evening when it freezes/buffers ( like I said in my 1st post )
