Calling on PH detectives. Found this in a local river. About 4 feet long hexagonal section iron or steel bar. Looks like a concrete breaker except for the hexagonal hole. Seems pretty modern, looks welded at the joins to the hole.
Could be but it doesn't seem that old and I've looked at stuff like that and only found square drives on valves, locks, sluices etc. The end is pointed like a breaker or pry bar of some sort
Agreed. Probably rather specialised for a particular job but it looks like it would apply some serious leverage. That would be my guess based on knowing close to nothing about old iron tools.
Part 2 of things I found in the river. Found 3 of these steel pins about 55cm long, diameter 21mm. In places the surface looks to have been machined, maybe even polished. The ends are chamfered with a machined slot for something like a C plate or retaining clip.
Just seen this thread, but in relation to the original post and image number one, that would be a ground anchor stake for a tirfor winch. Sorry it's nothing more exciting.
You knock the stakes all of the way in, then when you are done you slide a spare stake through the top hole in an embedded stake and pull/wiggle it up and out.
