World of Tanks /ships etc for years fancied a change.

Tried DCS on keyboard and was impressed. Got the joysticks and controllers now have the VR headset. OMG

its

Amazing.

Also just bought halflife alyx for VR - again OMG amazing.

If you are on the fence about VR which I was and you have the GPU get it - its like amazing.

VTOL VR is a hoot as well and doesn't need the joysticks.

There is loads of good stuff in the VR thread, https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

However seeing as we are here. Beatsaber, Star Wars Squadrons, Super Hot, Space Pirate Trainer and Project Cars 2 all just ace in VR, not forgetting Elite Dangerous!

VTOL VR gets my vote as well, you can just fly without knowing any keyboard commands or joystick buttons, just how to start the engines and fly the thing.

In all simulators the freedom to simply look around in a 3D environment (3D as in you have an idea of distance) makes life so much easier.

Driving games are transformed, you can just glance at mirrors or other cars and look into a corner, making life a lot easier.

One of my favourites is Derail Valley. Half-Life Alyx though takes things to another level. Somehow you can almost physically feel the environment. Gorn Also manages that, but in a different way.

Many people who criticise VR completely miss the point, IMO.

yep I was one of those - I thought that all you did was look left right up and down etc, head movement I didnt realise how 3d it was as well and all the leaning and moving head makes a massive change to the game.

In HL alyx you are leaning around corners, into boxes, under things, looking at your hands and environment is so realistic Im amazed. I had closed my eyes to whats going on with VR for 5 years or so and with a normal monitor you just can't see what the VR is all about.

Stick your head out of any old plane in a VR flight sim:MSFS, IL-2, DCS, Aerofly, Flying Circus 2,XP-11,etc and the feeling is amazing
I'd second VTOL VR, and also Warlanes:WW1 Fighters is a similar "No HOTAS" game thats great, and BattlegroupVR, a space RTS too-like being on the command deck of the Galactica

Battlegroup has me very interested.

On the point superlightr made about leaning on things, that is so familiar. When I need a break I often try to put my controllers down on a bench that doesn't really exist. Very strange feeling.

I think the same senses are at work when you're under fire and literally cowering behind cover.

I would highly recommend the Belko Experiment if that's still available. It's a free experience based on the movie (also recommended). I found it on Steam. There are quite a few good movie tie-ins. Batman is flipping brilliant but I think I had to pay for it.

If you like escape rooms, 'I expect you to Die' is cool.
Plank not included is my preferred plank game and as it has no real controls is great for demoing (and freaking people out).
