Taxing Aston after SORN

Be careful if your Aston (or any other car) has been SORN'd. I just went to tax her indoor's ML from the 1st Sept, as she hasn't been using it over lockdown. Previously they used to give you a start date for when you wanted the tax to start, however now it's from the 1st of the month in which you make the application. Accordingly we've been nabbed for the full tax for August.

That means if you're doing an early start on the 1st of the month, you need to get up a bit earlier on the 1st, rather than doing it a day or so beforehand.

Unfair, but forewarned etc.

Its been that way for ages, you can tax the vehicle, from SORN, on line and takes minutes to do.

Appreciate that and have done it many times, however they used to give you the option of when to start the tax from.

And vice versa when you sorn your car they do it immediately with no refund for the remaining days.

Sorn it on the last day of the month .

The DVLA are getting very sneaky. This is very poor practice.

I did not find it was like that.
After quite legally enjoying a lovely 90 mile drive when SORNed in mid-July, I taxed online on 31 July, so that I could start using the car in August.
At some point during the process, I was asked July or August.
Have just checked to see if they 'stung' me for July, but no, it did begin on 1st August.
Perhaps they only give that choice on the last day or so of each month.
£600 is quite greedy, but they never retain that amount on principle, because of winter hibernation.
