I bought a bullet cam suction mount and it's great
Discussion
Hi all
You may have seen my thread a month or so ago on buying a bullet cam. Well, my thanks for all your answers because I went out and bought one!
Then, the problem of mounting it!
Well, I went to maplins and found this little gizmo. It's not very big (perhaps 2 or 3" diameter suction cup) but is absolutely fantastic.
We speed tested it at VMax to over 150mph and not only did the suction stay on the car, but the bullet camera attached remained absolutely still.
So, thought I'd just let you all know really! For £6.99 it really is worth it.
Thank again all for your help with the camera itself
Tony

I beleive a 35mm SLR would be ok. At 150+ mph the weight pushing against the cup/camera would be huge. I wouldn't suggest you did that speed with an SLR, but certainly you could do 20mph or so and have some big old shutter speeds!
Try it...just make sure you secure the camera superfluously aswell the first few times!

ah, what i meant was that with my bullet camera on it at 150mph the pressure against it was massive, so a heavier camera at 20mph would be able to cope for sure(if that makes sense?!)
Like you say, great way to get Evo style shots with fixed car and variable scenery and big old shutter speeds!

Bought one this afternoon, cracking piece of kit, the mini-dv cam moves around a little when hanging from the windscreen, but I'll try some exterior stuff at some point..
I can't really generate much G in the smart, so I won't have to worry too much about shaking the thing off...
Just need to work out some form of remote release for the digi cam now.. think I may have a play with the 35mm SLR on self timer at some point tho...

Glad I could be of help, guys
Cheers, ordered one of these myself on saturday. Whether it will hold all 1.2kg of d70 and Lens remains to be seen but I'll give it a go.
I'm not sure if it would cope with something of that weight, its only a little thing...
I tried it with a Dynax 40 and std 50mm lens which seemed pretty stable though i would'nt want to try it with anything much heavier. My 1D is certainly not going anywhere near it
I may try attaching my Contax G1 to it at some point, see if it can cope. Thats fairly heavy for a 'compact' camera...
