Looking to buy my first cat at 29
Discussion
A very good evening,
I hope you are well
I just recently passed my test at 29. I am based in London and looking for a ulez complaint car. My company has told me i can work from permanently so it would a to b trips and will not use the car to commute. I noticed since the pandemic the prices seems high even if car is around 10-12 years old. I am looking to spend around a max of £2k and looking for a 5-6 year old car. Any suggestions or recommendations?
hahah i meant car not cat

As said, you'll be looking at 2012/13 cars mostly, a few 2014s creeping into budget. If you set out to buy the newest car possible for a small budget you end up with a small city car, naturally enough - which or may not be suitable.
A few to consider
Reliability
Toyota Aygo, Pug 107, Citroen C1 (same car) up to 2014
Hyundai i10 up to 2014
Bit more space/refinement/fun to drive
Fiesta up to 2013
Mazda 2 up to 2013
Style
Fiat 500 up to 2013
Citroen DS3 up to 2013 (a couple of 153hp 1.6 THPs for the budget)
all fairly mainstream so shouldn't be too much of a nightmare to run AFAIK.
If you want anything more interesting you'll probably have to go older. Petrol cars are ULEZ compliant from at least 2006 (many earlier), so from that point of view you can get something older and a bit more interesting for the budget if you want.
A lease is going to work out a lot more expensive than buying a £2-3k supermini, since you're paying off the depreciation on a brand new car. You also have to be aware there may be a long lead time, as brand new cars are in short supply currently, unsure how that affects leases. But on the upside, you get a brand new car to drive.
At 29 you'll actually get sensible numbers insurance wise, so for me the Astra GTC Sport is my first pick:
