6/10.

Contains some classics triggers, such as "Midlands" based dealership, inconsequential mileage variations, and a company director (of indeterminate stature) as a previous owner.

Would have been a 5/10, but +1 for starting a sentence with "So".

Return it.

They'll be gutted it has come back and will likely hound you with an offer you cannot refuse to take it back. Or, maybe they'll just sell it to someone else and you'll have dodged a bullet.

If it's been smoked in to such an extent, much like the LR thread on here, you won't get rid of it.

Given the nature of the car you've bought (I've a C43 Wagon) I'd just wait for a better example.

RE keyless go, are you sure they haven't just removed the start button as a security measure and forgot to include it? They pop out. If you Google "Mercedes vin checker" and stick your VIN in to the site it offers up you'll see the full spec and options of the car, though you should have done that before purchasing.

Return the car or ask for some money back if you want to keep it. Two pretty simple options.

Thanks and yes I am fully aware of my options, I’m more reaching out for advice on the value of these individual components in terms of compensation. I don’t want to be unreasonable but not 100% sure what fair is in this scenario.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I did the Vin check and it has they keyless go package so I expect it’s as you suggested. The car drives well and some of these points are small and wouldn’t stop me if I had known about them, it’s more trying to understand the reduction in value so I know what to approach the dealer for.

Is ‘fogging’ still used? When I was at a main dealer, we had a few cars that required fogging, where a machine is placed in with the windows / doors closed to fumigate the vehicle, cannot recall any being returned from purchase point.

I’d be looking into this, look at the cost and work out what you feel would be sufficient compensation.

So long as it’s only smells and not visible, you like the car and as you have said it would be difficult to replace anytime soon, I’d consider keeping it, could it be recent (in the last weeks) smoke, rather than smoke which is from years of smoke, maybe it will clear.

There isn’t a standard tariff that applies to issues that you’ve raised, only you can really decide how much of an inconvenience this is to you and how much this undermines your enjoyment of the car.

If you’re so inclined, just go for a percentage off the figure on your invoice and if they pay it consider the case settled.

Will look into the detailing and “fogging”

That cigarette smoke smell is near on impossible to get rid of. You can replace the interior, but the smell will be in the hvac system, it's worse in the winter with windows closed and heating on.

I have little faith with dealers recitifing things, it's less work for them to simply take the car back and fob it off to the next guy with minimal remediation.

Miles and scratches wouldn't bother me, but I can't stand the smell of a smokers cars.

Hi all, I’m new to posting here so go easy please.

I recently took delivery of a c63s 2017 from a good sized dealer in the midlands. They are have a lot of good reviews and have been what I would consider professional in regards to customer service. I’m hoping that the issues I’m having have simply been overlooked by accident and I can now work with them to resolve, so for now I won’t be sharing their details.

I took delivery on Friday this week. See issues below:

1 - there is 888 miles more on the clock than listed on the advert and my invoice for the car. They claim the director of the company was using it as his daily whilst it was up for sale. I don’t feel comfortable with that but don’t know the industry and that could be the norm?

2 - really annoying rattle coming from the sunroof.

3 - small scratches on the passenger front door that weren’t disclosed in the walk round video.

4 - the car was listed as a keyless go and it isn’t, you have to put the key in.

5 - car was delivered with 30 miles of fuel. Not a biggie but felt it was a bit poor form when spending 40k on a car.

6 - and this is the worst thing for me… after having the car for 24 hours, the valet shiny smell they polished everything with has worn off and it reeks of stale smoke! Unbelievably… it’s so strong I’m actually concerned about 2nd hand smoke. It didn’t advertise as a smokers car and I wasn’t made aware either. For me what’s worse is I was led into a false sense of security because in the walk around video I got sent the salesman showed me the interior and claimed it was in fantastic condition and whilst skimming over the drinks holders and then the cigaretre tray in the video he said, and I quote “ it houses a cigarette tray, but you’d never smoke in this car” this led me to believe that the car had the smoker pack but didn’t have signs of a smoker owner. For me this changes the whole car and certainly resale value in the future.

So I’m after advice. I’ve complained to the company and as awkward as it is, and rather embarrassing to be so picky, it’s a lot of money for me and I feel a little duped. I can return the car within 14 days if I’m unsatisfied so there is a last resort solution… BUT I love the spec, there’s a serious shortage at the moment so finding a replacement could take months due to the colour of the car. (Matte grey option on the factory order)

The dealer has asked me what I want to do about the issues, suggesting I put a figure on this. Im not sure where to even start as if I’d known it was a smokers car I wouldn’t have even looked at it twice.

Please help with advice and apologies in advance if some of the points like the low fuel sound a bit like a “Karen complaint” but it’s just things have mounted up.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.
Why don't you forget about the cost of each individual item to fix.

Give the car back with your snagging list that needs sorting and tell them to fix them all in a sensible amount of time.

If they cannot achieve this then you will look to return the car.

Any half reasonable garage will be able to sort those items you mention out and even provide you with a hire car whilst doing so.

Sounds like you purchased the car without a physical inspection yourself which is never a brilliant idea. There is not alot you can do about the extra mileage sadly.

Google for car detailers local to you. Contact them and tell them about the smoke smell. Make sure they have an 'Ozone generator' (referred to as 'fogging' earlier in the thread. Get a quote from the detailer, and ask the dealer where you bought the car, if they will pay.

Once the interior of the car has been cleaned out properly, the pollen filter replaced, and had the ozone generator treatment, the smoke smell will be gone forever.
