After seeing the recent Taycan feature with a car in rubystone it got me thinking.

I am about to order a 4.0 GtS Cayman and wondered if it would be a residual disaster ordering this colour.

I saw it on a 964 RS years ago and loved the colour.

Any advice on this and paint to sample in general (the order process especially) gratefully received!

No. It’s a lovely colour. Yes it may be a harder sell, but the right buyer would likely pay overs.

I wouldn’t worry about the next buyer just go for what you want. I’d buy a ruby car in a heartbeat and I’m not the only one.

It is certainly a brave choice and you'd have to really want it. While I like it, I don't think I'd want to live with it every day, especially on an a Cayman. A 964 is a small car and nowadays tends to be a car for occasional use which lends itself more to the extrovert colours. Someone living in my area had a Ruby' 964 and seeing it always made me smile.

Editied for calling a Cayman a Taycan rolleyes

I’ve seen pics of a GT3 Touring in Rubystone recently and thought it was stunning. Ideally try and find pics of a Cayman in it to see how it looks etc. Could be fantastic!

In the late 90's I had a 964 Turbo in Rubystone which everyone referred as PINK... !rage

Works on the 964RS, and obviously people in the know ‘get it’
But on a contemporary car most people would think of it as ‘Barbie Pink’ IMO.
However, colour is a very personal choice, so only you can decide

Go for it if you like it. I like it on the 964RS but not enough to own one. The misses was not at all impressed with the colour when we saw one recently.

You mean like a Challenger hehe they call it Furious Fuchsia,
looks similar to Rubystone .

Outstanding colour - not sure I could live with it though

It’s a great colour, but only on the right cars, and it’s easy to fall in love with other people’s photos…

I’m not sure I would be so brave, but this photo is stunning!

I wouldn’t do it.

I think a new GT3 can just about pull it off but not a Cayman, especially a non-GT4 Cayman.

It is a great colour but even on the 964 it divided opinion.
To most people it’s just a strange pink Porsche.

I do love the old colours though and Viola looks great on the more modern stuff. That would be my choice personally. thumbup

Going for a vivid colour will divide opinion.

By contrast, personally, I prefer the more subtle colours, but Silvers and dark metallic Greys are far too common and mainstream.

Starting to find love for the flat Greys, although with more depth than Crayon/Chalk.
Fashion or Nardo Grey have a distinctive retro-look and seem to suit most Porsche models, IMV.

I agree with the above....it looks good on historic air cooled 911's but a bit much, in my opinion, on a 718. Yes on a purposely tricked out track weapon but a day-to-day non rare 718, not convinced.....but if you love it, thats all that matters so go for it if you want....but if you were sure then you'd probably not have started this thread.

Order the car with a conventional or resale friendly colour you like, use the money you saved on PTS to get a good quality wrap.

My wife’s 718 Boxster was Ruby Star (it’s not called Rubystone any more). Personally I think it worked well but the black roof and wheels broke up the colour…not so sure about a Cayman to be honest. If anything I’d say we got a bit more for it because it was PTS and the OPC got strong money for it (sold at the beginning of the summer).

I’d also say that the GT3 photo and the Cayman photo’s above are not a good representation of the colour….it is darker in the metal like in these photo’s

I think the PTS colours are all special. If you like Rubystone and plan on keeping the car a while then go for it. The whole point of PTS is that the car is special enough to you to make it your own.
