I am going to purchas a '97 Chim and need to get my insurance sorted out.

I'm 25 with no no claims (had company cars and may insurers wont accept this), I also have 3 points.

Is there anyone here of a same age / lack of ncb / points who can point me in the direction of a sensible insurer.

I will only do about 5k miles a year.

Cheers

Nick

Try tesco's, I pay just over 1k on a Griff 500, I'm 24 with full no claims and 4 points.

edit to say: can't u get letters from the companys stating that you drove their cars for the no claims stuff?

Dealmaster - you could try moving to Northern Ireland. I'm 39, claim and conviction free for over 15 years, will do approx 4k miles per year - I'm also paying £1k for a '94 4.0 Chim.

Bleedin lottery, innit, this insurance malarky.

Had wedge400 last year with NU through Manning, fc, fncb, top bonus, unlimited miles, me & the missus, nul points etc, for £940. Before I rejoined the tvrcc, Manning wanted to know how many miles I'd done in the wedge and the subsequent xjs4.0, c/w the missus' mileage, which they saw as neglibible, and quoted £850 unlimited for the griff under same terms, or, if i rejoined tvrcc, they could quote me classic for max 4500mls for £550.

We're both over 40.

Got tvrcc and did it thru Footman James max 3000 for £416.

I went with Privilege - £900 on my Chim 400 when I was 26 (no points (then) and 4yrs NCB though). Might be worth giving them a .

However, as Shadowfax says, insurance seems to be something of a lottery, with insurers seeming to pull random quotes out of their @rses...

Good luck!

I bought my chim when I was 23 (26 now), I too had 3 points.
Confused is where I started looking. Tesco were the cheapest. I`m currently with Sunning hill who are excellent - so maybe give them a try.

Also try a few classic car insurances that advertise in the back of sprint. As Chim`s have got older they now fall in to the "future classics" bracket for some insurance companies, giving lower premiums.

Hope this helps

Let your fingers do the walking ...

It's worth making *lots* of 'phone calls for car insurance. As can be seen from the postings here, just about every insurance company that will insure TVRs has been recommended. Since everyone's circumstances are different, it's hard to extrapolate from one to another.

And just as an example, Liverpool Victoria, who have been recommended on PH on a number of occasions, refused to quote for me because "the car had been modified" (by the fitment of a Rollcentre rollover bar).

In the past, I've used and can recommend; Peart, Mannings, Sunninghill, Privilege, Taylor-Price, Bryant-Kesek, Dominion & Eggar-Lawson. Like I said, ring round every year - 50% savings are easy to achieve. Good sources for numbers are the back of Sprint and "CAR".

Have you tried Frizzells?

I have zero no claims and 3 points and got cover for <£800 (unlimited miles, track-day, european cover and free breakdown) on a 4l chim.

Northern Ireland ?? the highest premiums in the uk !!

I'm 35 94 4.0 Chim, currently paying £400 for 3k miles or £460 for 5k !!

With AON, modern classic policy.

My point exactly Stu247 - just trying to make you guys feel better about what you're paying in GB. Never mind, the more miles you do in your Tiv, the cheaper it is per mile . .
