Today I was going to finally buy some watches after procrastinating for ages. I lost out on something else so thought ‘screw it’.

I know the new moon watch has a better movement but I wasn’t sure about the strap. Today it was poured out how sharp the case is where the strap joins it, very odd it is certified for flight?

There’s no deals to be had, but £200 off. I didn’t (again) as phase two of the procrastination process begins biggrin

Wanted to ask has anyone had both the new model and the older one? Is the new movement really going to change my life?

I love that the Speedmaster hasn't really changed since they were released. I have a 2018 model.

Had a different Speedy and loved it. It was very comfortable. I quite fancy a Moonwatch with the Hesalite crystal.

I have the "old" one (hesalite model). Tried the new one on the other day (sapphire sandwich) and loved the new bracelet. Or to be precise, loved how it draped straight from the lugs as such, meaning it wore nicer/smaller for me.

I've heard about the sharp edges and must say I didn't notice but I suppose I only had it on for a few mins.

Not sure of the price difference between new vs what you can get a discontinued one for but I'd lean towards the newer one for the better bracelet I think. Although with the older you obviously get the bigger box with the extra straps. Guess you can't go far wrong with either but new for me by a smidge!

I bought the Heselite version earlier this year from WoS .... again, I love the fact thats it not changed since its release. I considered the sapphire version but I don't like the idea of the glass case back and wanted a traditional model.

I also didn't want the steel bracelet so I chose the croc skin strap .... but when I wore it, although it looks great, I just couldn't get on with the rigid nature of it. Perhaps it would have softened in time but I saw the fabric strap and had to have it .... I just swapped the clasp from the croc skin strap and now the watch looks and feels perfect.

So my advice is to go for it, IMO its the best looking chrono out there.

I've go the 'old' Moonwatch on the leather/croc strap. I've never been a fan of metal bracelets. Had it 2 years, although hardly worn it during the last 18 months and it hasn't softened one little bit. It's a thick old beast!

Love that fabric strap. Gives it a much more casual look

Just wish they were waterproof..

I have the panda dial co-axial Speedy racing saved on Chrono24, that at least offers 100m WR, it won't be long before a few too many beers means it's on it's way.

Yeah, the Moonwatch is just a classic, Omega have probably wrung the neck out of it a bit but at its core it's one of the best 'icon' chronographs for many reasons, its continuity is testament to that I think. Like the Zenith El Primero movement it's one of those things that was almost perfect straight out of the blocks.

Mine is an 80's auto day/date center minute, necessarily busier but still great readability and in that gorgeous case:

I'd try and snap up one of the old models, i got one in April with 15% off from Mappin and Webb. Each to their own but I prefer the old bracelet. There are still quite a few in WOS warehouses. The new version is over £5k for hesalite, wow.

I love the one I bought in 2019. Whatever you buy Im sure you'll love it. Just stop procrastinating and buy one the price only goes one way.

What a timely thread....considering liquidating a few of my Seikos to maybe add a Moonwatch.

Hopefully it'll be the right choice.

Purchased my Speedy Sapphire Sandwich with the old movement last August from an AD for £4k. I would've thought you could achieve more than £200 discount.

I have a 2013 moon watch, wear it regularly and love it. I do however wear it on an Omega nylon strap with a deployant clasp.

I do also have the Omega strap which wraps under the body of watch which I wouldn’t recommend as the watch wears too high. Great on a space suit, but annoying when you want to tuck it under a shirt cuff.

The steel strap is good, but not on par with a Rolex Oyster. I feel mine wears much better on a fabric (and probably leather) strap.

My 43 year old Speedy pro. is as good now as when I bought it. It has been serviced once.
Just go for it either vintage or new but make sure it is a speedmaster professional.
