This is an interesting story. Driffield has a mural done to depict local well known business owners who worked through the pandemic to keep town going.
Great idea, except, it seems they are all white!
I presume this is just a coincidence and the people, that they chose to commemorate, in the area they chose, all just happen to be white, rather than they left out the black people, etc!
But all seems to have backfired.
FWIW, I think it’s quite a nice idea, especially the people are real and can be recognised etc as seems to be case here, but in 2021, did no one think…….errrrrrr…..

The BBC gave a link to the facebook post. I had a quick scan and it appeared to be one lady who commented about the lack of diversity and not did not get a single word of support in the responses. Replies pointed out that the mural was based on actual people and that's what colour and gender they actually are.

A combined population of folks identifying as anything other than white of just over 1%.
Absolutely ridiculous it's even being questioned.
If there was a famous or very community-focused black/asian/ME individual who had not been included then fair enough - questions could be asked.
Given the census results, it would appear that the folks depicted are actual individuals in the community worthy of recognition. Why the hell should someone be included just for the sake of diversity.
I'm pretty sure that 99.9% of people of any ethnic background would agree, it's just the PC nutcases who grab the headlines.
I think it's appalling and takes away from genuine cases of racism and discrimination.

Its time to turn the tables and hunt down these attention seeking nobodies and destroy them. Find her, analyze her every move and word for the last 20 years and rip her to shreds. We know she will be a massive hypocrite loser who has achieved nothing with her life, these people have made the well meaning morally superior majority question themselves for too long. It's time to pound them into the dirt where they belong.Let's start with her name and a link to her facebook profile please.

Brings to mind the furore over Bideford's nickname 'Little White Town' that had nowt to do with it's ethnic mix and everything to do with the predominant colour of it's buildings. But never let facts get in the way of the professionally offended and those looking for racism where non exists (the irony being it's such folk who are the actual racists)

Indeed. Though, when did Driffield gain a Northern Quarter, Market Place and Station Quarter? Looking at the images, all of those are on Middle Street, the only shopping street in town, which can’t be much more than 0.5 miles long from beginning to end!It follows that virtually all local business owners will also be white.
