What is the current sentence for acts of Treason?

If the little F@ckers that tried to blow the tubes/bus today are caught and are British born, does that mean they could be tried for Treason?
If they were what would the punishment be?
I know the death sentence used to still be on the statuate books for acts of treason, but I am not sure if this is still the case.

Death penalty was abolished for treason several years ago unfortunately.
A definition of treason is / was
In law, treason is the crime of disloyalty to one's nation. A person who reneges on an oath of loyalty or a pledge of allegiance, and in some way willfully cooperates with an enemy, is considered to be a traitor. Oran's Dictionary of the Law (1983) defines treason as: "...[a]...citizen's actions to help a foreign government overthrow, make war against, or seriously injure the [parent nation]."

Probably right, this country seems to have gone too left wing, what the BBC and government say is wholly at odds with the views of many people from all walks of life we have spoken to today! Judging by what a LOT of people are saying and thinking, this is very dangerous and potentially volotile propaganda game the left wingers are playing, pandering way too much to the Muslim point of view.
These arn't neccerssarily my views, but they seem to be the view of a LOT of decent people who are fed up!
Let's put it into context, these people are suicide murderers primarily and their religion comes second. Let's deal with these murderers who happen to be islamic rather than directing broad religious hatred. I know it's tempting but these people are a disgrace to Islam and should be dealt with in a subhuman manner.

I think an ironic punishment is better. They should be thoroughly interrogated then tried by a Shariah court and punished accordingly, beheading is a possibility.
