An ISIS inspired terrorist from Sri Lanka went on a rampage in a supermarket in Auckland today. He managed to stab six people before being shot by police. Apparently he was a known risk and was under 24 hour surveillance. The police shot him in around a minute after he started the rampage.

Although details are scare at the moment - apparently there are so legal reasons for that - it seems that surveillance was the maximum they could do ie they couldn’t keep him in prison.

I suspect there will be some fall out from this event although Kiwis are generally quite tolerant.

What fall out do you think there will be? He was killed within 60 seconds of beginning his attack. He obtained a knife from within the Countdown in New Lynn and was dead less than a minute later. Three people are in hospital with knife injuries.

I don't see any cause for any fall out.

They seem to have more than their fair share of these types of events for such a small isolated nation.

Maybe it's just my perception.

Got us confused with the Aussies, mate. Easy to do, but we ate the sophisticated ones that are good at rugby.

Back in th' old days, a hangi ( an earth oven lined with hot rocks) would be prepared, the head would be left above ground. When the eyes go opaque, it's ready. lickwink & a parrot the size of a moa for some.
It's a one-off, it's no more common here than your bridge attack in London. Lone nutter does crazy shyyte, could & does happen anywhere.

Thankfully it looks like the only people killed was the attacker.

Apparently 10% of the population of Sri Lanka are Muslim.

Two recentish lone-wolf, one by an Aussie who didn't live there? Interestingly the attack prior to those two was a piece of state-sponsored terrorism. It took a long time to reset relations with the French after that bombing, but showed how little leverage NZ really has in the world.

Err, not really. Have a read here

Quite the opposite in fact. It showed the world we weren't a soft touch that could be walked over. Anyway, that's way off topic.

“Ardern said the terrorist was a Sri Lankan national who arrived in New Zealand in October 2011.”

"He became a person of national security interest from 2016."

Shirley deportation would be best practice at that time ?

Yes. Nothing to do with Islam obvs.

"It was hateful, it was wrong. It was carried out by an individual, not a faith," Ms Ardern said. "He alone carries the responsibility for these acts."

I can remember how pleased Jacinda Arden sounded when it transpired the Christchurch mosque attacks hadn't actually been carried out by a Kiwi. Fitted her 'This (presumably meaning racism or Islamaphobia) is not us' narrative that's she likes to push out.
