bit of maths help please

if I have a picture of something that is 1/72 scale.
How much would I need to reduce that picture by to make it 1/100 scale.

I been trying but my brain just melted.

Times it by 72 to make it 1/1 scale.
Then divide it by 100 to make it 1/100 scale.

In other words multiply it by 72/100.

I think.... It's too hot in here and it's the afternoon so brain not on top form.

Make it 72/100th of what it was before, ie 72%

Nope, its a tank. But close...well..ish
Its a PDF so I can only rescale it to print it.
I.e. I can't actually rescale the drawing, only how it prints.
Hence I can't make it 1/1 and then divide it by 100.
I need to scale 1/72 down to 1/100.
Bugger innit?

but it sounds like it's on a photocopier and they work on area not length so the answer would be 52%.

28% by length or 48% by area.

If it's on A3 paper then just shrinking to A4 would reduce it by the square root of ½ or approximately . . .
