OK, I'm embarrassed to ask such an obvious question, but how often should I change the engine oil on a 996?

I check it once a week, the level is good and the oil looks in good condition. I've done 3K miles since last service.

According to Porsche once a year or every 12k miles is just fine.
Some like to change it more frequently (perhaps if you do a lot of track days)

Would think Porsche's guidlines are fine.

Porsche recommend intervals for every car, but if you're more independent minded it can depend on the oil you use and the type of use the car gets. On regular (frequency) normal road use my 911T has a wet nose and waggly tail after 12k on Mobil 1 Motorsport. A PHer with a similar car and an oil guru will be along shortly to advise you and scold me

Edited to add - must type quicker

Fair point. I reckon turbotowers has got into a slowmo time warp, can't seem to get anywhere fast today.

Maybe I need more lubrication
