If you're talking about the opening post in a thread, then I agree that people just tend to askdemand (on any social media platform) and want to be spoonfed information.
On thread titles though, I think it's better that they are concise and to the point, as it makes it easier to scan through them all and find the ones I feel will be worth reading or contributing to. I see such topics as building a helpful database so people who need help can find these in the future and don't need to post the same question again (hard to type that and keep a straight face though).
I hate "talk to me" though, at least give us a clue what kind of topic this is!

I don't mind brusque titles, lack of Ps and Qs only becomes an issue for me when directed at someone, not when asked of the masses.

(especially when reading on a phone where screen real estate is at a premium. Else all the threads would be "Please, if you don't mind me asking, which ...")

I agree with this, for the most part. Thread titles, particularly on subforums like The Lounge where pretty much anything goes, are fine to be kept brief as the main body of the message / request will be in the first post. It's like those people who send you an email with their question in the subject line and a blank message, folks generally skim-read thread titles and email subjects so they can avoid the ones they don't want to open. That said, not that I'm gatekeeping or anything, but if I opened a thread titled "petrol lawnmowers, talk to me", I'd be much more inclined to help someone who writes a polite request, rather than just "I need a new mower, can you find me one". If you can't be bothered to ask your question politely, why should I be bothered to waste my time typing out a reply?
100% with you on the social media aspect though. I recently listed a few bits for free on facebook. The number of "interested" and "yes please" comments with no follow up was noteworthy - again, if you're not going to make the effort to just send me a message asking, then why should I make any effort to give you something for free?
