£17k for an estate or big boot - what would you get?
Discussion
I’ve just been forced (house move meant money required) to sell my pride and joy (Superb sportline plus 4x4 272) I spent ages on it and had it exactly like I wanted.
Which brings me to the question
With a budget of £17ish and the following requirements what would you be looking at?
- automatic
- no older than 2016
- no more than 50k miles
- big boot to swallow prams etc
- toys and goodies appreciated to soften the blow of selling
Cheers

Here's a few suggestions....
Mazda 6

Volvo V60 (a bit smaller than a Superb)

Jaguar XF...this just stretches the age limit...

You didn't say if you'd prefer petrol or diesel, manual or auto, estate or SUV....the Superb did look good, guessing you wouldn't want another?

Just get a Mondeo Estate - 2 litre turbo petrol in the highest spec you can find.
Make sure it's got Sync 3 which gives you reliable Android Auto / Apple Car Play.
Get the Winter Pack for the heated steering wheel. I think they all come with the heated windscreen.
Then you also want the Ford version of High Beam Assist and Adaptive Cruise and you're pretty much all set (these both work REALLY well). I don't know what other toys you need?

A neighbour has a grey one of these and it does look very nice - I think the red per that ad is always marmite. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/2021072454...
Covid has really killed this price point, not even a sensible mile 272 anywhere near this money now!
Most modern you'll get is a Peugeot 508SW, massive, 2019 car, boring.
E class changed shaped in 2017, and those are at 20k for a really basic spec, unless you're flexible on the miles. The older one's dash is horribly dated now.
Mondeo can be had as a Vignale, proper plush, and about in budget.
Smaller is Octavia, still nearly the largest boot in that class (Pug 308SW biggest I think, but too boring), at least with a VRS you have what you're familiar with, and they are pretty much beyond criticism. Only prob is a shape change, look for the split headlight post 2017, unless it's too much like a junior Superb for you...

As noted above, coming from a Superb estate a lot of other cars are going to seem small, and Mercs/Beamers are going to have higher running costs.
I'd go for another Superb:

or a Mondeo

A little left field and very rare. Will do everything you ask, but it is a Vauxhall...

Choosing between them will be tough - running costs arent an issue, SKODA will be a step down from current spec by a long way but im used to the space, VW is just bland but decent spec, BMW lowest spec but gives me the biggest "Fizz"
What are your thoughts?

We went round looking at possible dog waggon replacements a few weeks back. Might be different to your requirements but still estate chat.
Currently have a 308SW for doggy duties and whilst it does have class leading volume for the boot - the key for us is the height in the boot. This ruled out the 3 series touring and the new 508SW we spied. The only volume that suited our dogs was a 5 touring being deep and tall. After looking about that's probably what we'll be going for in some guise.
That one you linked to above looks just the job for wafting along without too much expense.

Out of those, I’d pick the 520d. Don’t get the lower spec Superb, it’ll make you depressed. Ive been trawling none stop and think i have a shortlist;

If the 5 series is big enough then go with that. Its MUCH nicer to drive IMO and frankly the 320d and 520d are the sweet spots of the whole BMW ranges, if they get those wrong then they don't have a business. Great cars IMOIve been trawling none stop and think i have a shortlist;

That'd be my thought. Getting an older/slower/lower spec version of what you have will be annoying (applies equally to the Passat). The 5-series is something with a different architecture, will feel different rather than just a lesser version of what you had.Do you need all the space in a Supurb? You can get a similar age/mileage Octavia vRS for the same money. Slightly smaller but still a big boot and space for 4 adults, plus an extra 40 bhp, cruise control, satnav, etc
