Actual remap or snake oil?
Discussion
I'm well aware of all the snake oil "tuning boxes" etc on eBay and elsewhere that are nothing more than crappy devices that mess around with temperature sensors etc to change fuelling.
What about these: https://www.gantuning.com/ga/
They claim their product actually learns your current map through calibration and then can change fuelling /ignition timing etc
The + version has a smartphone app that would go very nicely with an android head unit.
More snake oil or more like a genuine ECU Flash?

If it seems too good to be true ...
They're carefully claiming gains of "up to", which includes zero or negative gains, so they aren't strictly lying. However, the gains they're trying to imply are simply not available in a modern healthy naturally aspirated engine regardless of cost, and a cheap signal interceptor box certainly won't do it..

So for my specific application they claim 11BHP and I agree it's a high claim indeed. Is something that interfaces with the OBD like that a simple signal interceptor though? If it calibrates itself and then offers a performance and economy map would that not be like a true ECU flash rather than a signal interceptor. It's not going to be able to adjust fueling and timing etc just by connecting to the OBD port is it?? It might just change the throttle sensitivity.
Dynamic mode, 25% pedal travel = 50% throttle butterfly opening, etc.
Eco mode 50% pedal travel = 25% throttle butterfly opening...
Made up numbers but you get the gist.
I think they sell a separate device for that. Could you even adjust throttle sensitivity through an OBD box? Dynamic mode, 25% pedal travel = 50% throttle butterfly opening, etc.

They specifically say they do not remap the ECU. It's snake oil in any case - you're just speculating about whether there's any way for it to have any impact at all.Dave. said:
Not sure, those are usually done by fitting the box inline to the pedal rather than the obd port.
I'd guess at BS, gains are too high for the cost for starters.
Yeah I thought BS, just hadn't seen a device that worked or claimed to work in that way before. It is at least high quality German BS! We know how effective that was over diesel emissions I'd guess at BS, gains are too high for the cost for starters.
