Where was this photo taken?

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'm after some help...

I have been going through photos of my dad who died nearly 30 years ago and every time I go through photos of him, I find that he was a pretty cool guy and it's a real shame I can't ask him about his RAF basic training and find out where he served and who half the people were in the photos to find out more about him. My mum can't help for various reasons (she wasn't there, didn't know him in some photos, etc) beyond "I think that was in Germany somewhere" or "he had a ridiculous moustache", etc

I found this photo and I'd love to know where it was - Can anyone help at all? It's around 1970, but could be as late as 1975 as we had an Elvis conversation which led to going through the photo.

The first photo could be on the River Rhine, based upon "Germany" and "RAF".

Thanks I didn't think he was cool, I was a teenager when he died after all, but he was the most amazing dad. And looking back at his 60's and 70's photos he had pretty amazing, on form, hair and threads

Germany makes sense, I didn't initially spot the car on the right hand side - which probably rules out the UK

It is. But the building on the left has garage written on it.



Edit, just did some quick translations and garage is the same in French and German it seems. Given the Beetle, that would seem to be Germany.

What's Garage in Welsh though?

I think those road signs that they are perched next to look (or more importantly the way they are mounted) suggest that is Europe to me & what with cars driving on the right, i'm sure that's not UK.

Also, judging by the algae/weed & stillness, I would say that is a river, not the sea.

The search continues.....but i'm sure it won't take PH long.....

Looks a bit like the Sankt Goarhausen area on the Rhine. It is difficult to get decent pic's on Google but this shows the area:

Agreed, definitely continental road signs. Does look like Germany though!

A great shout, but I think the river in that location is way too wide there.

If you look at the photo, on the far right of the image, there is vegetation, which I would suggest is growing from the other bank.

I think that river is probably only 10m or so wide there and probably quite shallow.
