Following on from Natascha Kampusch and the Fritzl family (as well as another case from 2019 https://www.straitstimes.com/world/case-evokes-mem...

Here's another Austrian keeping his, albeit dead, mother in the cellar.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-58510192

I wonder what the fascination is?

The cases you mention are just the ones that surfaced; I wonder how many are still under ground.

I live and work in Austria. When we give a tour around our company and we get to cellar. my Austrian colleagues even make jokes about “Austrians and cellars”….

When the fritz case happens I recall some on hear calling for all homes to be inspected once a year. Course that is bat st crazy but can you imagine what we would find.

Brothels in suburban areas
Drug factories
Sex dungeons
People obcessed with Elvis
Illegal guns

Christ the list could be endless but that's just human nature.

Didn't Hitler start the Austrians in cellars trend, although they used to call it a bunker back then.

I think cellars plant many a dark seed in the human heart which is why our government socially engineered them out of our consciousness, and housebuilding.

I can only think of two houses I've been in in the UK which had a cellar. The owner wasn't present both times which probably saved my life.

Can you imagine how good Fritzl was to build a diy cellar, sound proof it and visit it every day without his wife knowing.

I can't nail two pieces of wood together without causing myself injury and using every tool I own.
And I want to hide something that is the exact cupboard my wife needs to look in

I have grudging admiration for his home improvement skills

Knew I'd heard it somewhere before just couldn't remember. Thanks for that.
