Accident on forgotten to declare reg plates

Just wondering if anyone had any experience in this situation. Mrs bought a new car in June but we forgot to update on a change in plates that took place shortly after purchase. She got herself into a minor ding today. The other party have texted her saying her number plate is coming back as uninsured. We realised we forgot to notify insurer following the swap. Would we be uninsured from the point of view of a claim? The car is still the same - only the reg. is different. Wondering if this is going end up becoming a big deal?

The registration number is a separate entity to the vehicle, therefore I would suspect you are insured.

A vehicle will get it's original number back if a private reg is put onto a vehicle and then taken off again.

Take a look at your insurance documents. If the VIN is on them, you'll be fine. If it isn't, you'll still be fine but there's going to be a lot of extra hassle as you prove that this was the only Blomquist Zoomer 4.0T that you owned, so clearly your insurance policy for a Blomquist Zoomer 4.0T is vaild and for that Zoomer alone.

No it's not. It's a question anyone can answer. You will be insured, as there's no scope under the regulations insurers work within to void a claim for a reg number error when everything else is correct.

It's actually very difficult for an insurer to walk away from a claim. Certainly in circumstances like this, it won't even cross their minds.

You’ll be insured, in the same way that people with transposed characters are. The car/driver is the insured risk, not the numberplate.

I also don’t know how something so obvious could have been overlooked, unless there was an admin fee for a plate change, then it would make more sense.
