Background quickly is I have a new 110 miles round trip commute 3 or 4 times a week
All motorway (m4 Wales), I drive at the speed limit or below due to congestion and 50 zones,
I’m already bored of fuelling my Transporter and it’s a bit crazy driving a lwb van (Shuttle) on my own but it does do a reliable 40mpg ish
I started looking at an iD3 as well as the van for the commute but the maths don’t stack up.
The iD4 can take a roof rack/box and a towbar for a bike rack so it would work 99% of the time as the van apart from occasional 7 seat use which I can live without
The iD4 problem is the only model now to get the gov grant is the small battery 216mile range one and whilst £31k with discounts is a great price, I’m worried about range, but stepping up to the bigger battery is around £10k
Given the 8 year warranty and 20000miles a year pcp doesn’t work out that well or lease (£400 pcm which is about what the diesel and tax for the van costs!) I’m also tempted to buy outright,
So thoughts on owning a ev appreciated
Other option is iD3 now, keep the van and if they even build the id buzz, that would solve my problems!

Although I don’t own an ID4 we did look at one (along with the Q4 E-tron and Enyaq) and ended up going with the Enyaq.

The interior feels of a higher quality than the other 2, nearly on par with the larger E-tron we own.

The Skoda was larger and with the spec we went with, under the government grant level. The claimed range from memory is around 260 miles and we can get 220 without too much of a problem. For us, electric cars work for the majority of our driving as we charge overnight using cheaper rate juice and therefore have the full 220 miles available every day. I regularly do 150 mile trips in a day with 50% at motorway speed and it’s absolutely fine for that.

Thanks, the Skoda has a slightly larger battery also

I’d be charging at home overnight every night I guess and switching tariffs to octopus

Just a heads up on the tow bar, I don't think you can have one on the ID4 with the bigger battery.
