£1.5k daily watch purchase
Discussion
Looking at buying myself a watch for my upcoming 30th birthday for circa £1.5k or less.
I don't currently own any 'premium' watches, and I don't intend on getting any more. I am not bothered about residual as it will never be sold.
I really like Tudor, but these are out of my price range. At the moment, I am looking at Tag, but think these have a bit of a bad rep amongst the watch community.
Needs to be worn daily, so stainless steel, stainless bracelet (not leather strap) and ideally be semi smart for work / casual.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

At that price, Longines. Credible Swiss brand with plenty of choice at this price level.
Hydroconquest with ceramic bezel. I have the previous version of this watch and love it…

Over budget but a haggle could get you there, and a wonderful looking watch imo…

Have a look at their website for more formal offerings. I would avoid the quartz models but their heritage lines in particular deserve a good look…

Would be very tempted to order a Grand Seiko direct from Japan if I was you.

Really depends on the style your looking for
Diver style with GMT function at 10% off
Very well regarded make

or
Under budget with a good solid movement -
Ignore the image the watch & bracelet is completely black hard wearing ceramic
https://www.chisholmhunter.co.uk/rado-centrix-42mm...

or
Ball Watch Company & Oris do a range of watches within your price range all with (as Rado) solid robust movements

Spend an evening reviewing the options in places like
https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/

If you decide to lower your budget
https://www.watchshop.com/?nst=0&gclid=199ccc0...
Or check the sales section of Beaverbrooks, Earnest Jones ETC
But to correct you .... No one really pay's much interest in what watch your wearing and for £1.5k a Tag Hauer is an honest robust hard wearing daily
BUT
IF it was my money for an extra 500

If you want a Tudor… get a Tudor.
Second hand you can often pick a BB up for £2k or under. To me I would try and save up a bit or bang it on credit card, it seems like a false economy almost to compromise for a relatively small sum.

I agree. Save up the extra or, if you must, borrow it. But I’d definitely look to try and spend around £2300 on a lightly worn BB58 or similar. Buying used at that price is fairly safe for your money if the worst happens and you need it back. Second hand you can often pick a BB up for £2k or under.
